Made my "fatty" more pocketable by removing the clip which I found superfluous for such a short knife. I like it very much, though blade almost gets in the way for some tasks better suited to a pointed blade.
Although I own a lot more expensive knives, I found the fatty to be a serviceable knife (especially for the price.) I bought one off ebay for less than $15 including shipping and think it is a worthwhile purchase. Thanks for the info UnknownVT.
My Fatty is pretty hard to open either with the thumb stud or with two hands. Any suggestions on how to loosen it up? I tried loosening the screw that the blade pivots on (with the star shaped hole in the pics above) but it was still tight.
Again my apologies for the late response - I'm on very limited access at the moment.
My sample is very easy to open using the thumb studs - and I can manged even with my left hand (and I am very right-handed)
The blade will fall undergravity if the lock is unlatched - that's why I specifically mentioned in this review I had to modify my one-handed closing to prevent the edge from hitting my finger that's across the opening - this is even more important since I convexed the edge.......
If by lossening the pivot screw the blade did not free up - then there may be an obstruction that preventing the blade from moving freely - if it's not obvious - you may need to contact Gerber for a replacement?
that sample was terrible and deserve the bad comments.
However my sample of one seems to be fine as the other posts in this thread seem to indicate -
I'd be very grateful if anyone else who has had problems with the Gerber Fatty post about it - as I don't really want to be glowing about a knife that may have trashy problems.
FWIW - I am liking mine more and more since I've put the convexed edge on - it is really solid - compact - although conversely it also feels "bulky" clipped to the pocket.....
