I recently made it over to REI to spend some money on a giftcard I had. Amongst a couple other small items I picked up, this little light really caught my eye. I really like the Surefire Outdoorsman 2 I recently got, but this Firecracker is smaller and uses a regular AA battery.

The beam is a nice, tight spot. Even with the lights on it will throw a nice spot on a far off wall. It's rated at 18 lumens. It's pretty lightweight, but still heavy duty feeling with it's greeninsh aluminum body.

You can push on the tailcap for a momentary on/off, so I'll definitely untwist quite a ways before putting it in my pack or pocket. Doesn't seem much of a problem though. Really a nice little light for $20. These new LED's are really getting mind blowing in the light they can throw. http://www.rei.com/product/48149795.htm

It is slightly bigger than the Tasklight, and is a lot brighter. I still like my Tasklight though, it's been on a lot of trips and just keeps going.

$20 seems like ag ood price for what it is.

I agree, the new LEDs are freaking insane! I got one for my G3 and 6P and WOAH they are freaking INSANE!!!!

Thanks for the review. I saw the Firecracker and was curious how it performed.

Had bad luck with its smaller AAA relative, the $10 Gerber Tempo. I bought a Tempo for my wife, but it became intermittant within a day or two of purchase. Despite a thorough cleaning, it remained flakey during the next 2 weeks, so I returned it to REI and gave her one of my spare Peak Matterhorn AAA lights instead.
