The Gerber EZ Out Jr. is a decent knife, and its the one that got me started on my knife addition. Also have a Gator, but it comes without a pocket clip.

Back in the day, Gerber made a cool boot knife.

Their folders were always inferior to the 110, so why go there? I never did, and their current knives are not as good as the old ones.

You might check e-Bay and if you see an older Gerber knife that looks good to you.....give it a shot.

It's a good way to learn.

Boy Roc, the Buck forum sure isn't the place for this post, but the early (1970's) Gerber Folding Sportsmans were some great knives that were comparable to the Buck folders IMHO.

Edit: By the way, what in the world is this post doing in the Buck Forum!!

Roc says:

Comparable, yes.

And when you compared them.....the 110s were better.

;)

Yes. And with all the Gerber Bashing, I must say I'm really impressed with this folder! ;)

Wonder if you can get a Gerber Silver Knight on eBay for $30-$40? Those are great little knives.

Al Mar designed some wonderful folders, fighters, and hunters for Gerber back in the 70's -80's.The F.S. series can still be had pretty reasonably. They are great knives.E-Z outs are good tough users for low $.

I haven't bought one in probably 10 years - but used and gave as gifts a pile of LST's over the years. Just thought they were a astonishingly great knife for a reasonable price. Anybody got recent info in terms of actual use on the "newer" versions of these?

ahhhh... the lst!
i had one that was sharp.. and lasted and lasted .... adnasum..
sharpen once in 4 mos took top layer of hide off had that spottty look like road rash..
let a friend buy it and made 10 bucks on it an got another and well it was not what the first was... still good but no better then the buck i had .. but i still remember that first one...
jest wow on that one blade,,, no kidding i cut the metal band on 2" conduit with it and it still popped hair off the arm!!! now it did take a long time to sharp up but ... wow..

If you can find a Gerber Parabellum folder for around $30-$40, pick it up. They've been discontinued for years, but I found one of the first model versions with the two-way carry sheath that was in near-perfect condition for $30 at a local antique shop. I carry it in my right front pocket every day.

Note- There were two versions of the Parabellum. The first was made of 440C steel, and came with the two-way sheath (could either carry the knife as a folder, or a fixed-blade). The second version was made of 440A (not nearly as good as 440C for edge retention) and only came with a folder sheath. If you can, get the first version of it.

Say What??

Roc says:

Tin Sue.....you must have missed the part where I said Gerber once made some pretty cool boot knives. Try to keep up.

If Gerber actually made knives as good as Bucks are made.....this forum would be called the Gerber forum and we'd all have a Gerber in our pocket instead of a Buck.

;)
