Looks pretty cool 2 tools in one ... anybody ever handle one ... thoughts ?

A rugged Gerber® Axe with a hollow glass-filled nylon handle. Inside, is a detachable razor-sharp saw.

This model comes with a magnet in the hollow handle to lock our precision ground saw into to place. Giving you the tools you require to finish the job in one spot.

3" forged steel head
Gator sure-grip handle is 15" overall
6" coarse-cut saw
Includes ballistic sheath. Set weighs 1 lb., 12 ozs.

I have the smaller version with a knife in the handle. The magnet is not strong enough to keep the knife in the handle when you chop. I took it out and cobbled together a sheath from an old laser pointer holder.

Mine was dull out of the box (actually the clamshell plastic packaging...does anything come in a box anymore?) It took a pretty good edge and it is easy to touch it up in the field. The knife was dull as well but takes and keeps a pretty good edge.

I find the pocket ax to be very handy. It carries easily on my belt. I reach for it more than my knife (I know, blasphemy, but it is the truth). It is okay for limbing, the handle is not quite long enough for me. It works great as a hammer and for splitting firewood (I baton with it). It is very handy for food prep. (kind of like an ulu - you hold it at the top of the ax head). It is really great for making kindling. Some guys use it to skin and dress game.

It is very sturdy and I have used mine for prying and digging - wilderness skills we often don't consider. I carry a small file and a diamond hone to re-sharpen it in the field.

I haven't yet tested it against string, rope and paracord.

Sadly, it will not spread peanut butter, an essential wilderness skill. It also does not work as a firesteel striker so I carry a SAK huntsman for that.

The more I use it, the more uses I find for it.

I have one with the saw and also the pocket axe with the knife and find them handy but the axe heads both could use a little thinning to get the most out of them.

I have the one with the knif and plan on getting the one with the saw. Pretty good quality and pretty low price.
