I have two Gerber Gator folders both in 154CM steel. I was looking at a Gerber Gator fixed blade in a store this last week and wondered how good of knife they might be. I couldn't see what kind of steel the blade was and the store guy was to busy to show it to me. Anybody have one.

The standard Gator fixed blade is 440C.

Now. Far be it from me to be a bad influence but, Cabelas has an exclusive version of the Gerber Gator with handles made by Bell and Carlson and CPM S30V for blade steel.

Cabelas version of the Gator

Its not on sale for a ridiculously low price so I hope this isn't taken as deal spotting. I'm just making known that there are versions out there other than the factory Gerber version.

They have them listed as 420HC on there website, I've owned a couple LST models and gators but never a fixed gator, I've thought about picking one up before myself.

I stand corrected. I've had a couple LST's and they are 420HC, not 440C as I posted. Must have got confused by the 440C mentioned in the ad :foot:.

Personally, I prefer 420HC to 440C in most cases. Probably because I found Benchmade's 440 a bit on the brittle side.

Yeah, I checked that one out. I had the Cabelas Vanguard for quite a while.
