WTF!

was thinking about this for a bit, and after reading a review on here comparing it to an Ontario and was given a great review I headed out to get one.

Liked it quite a bit, me and a buddy each took a couple of swings and liked it, BUT noticed that the handle was a little bit loose, it just shifted a bit.

I wanted to see how it could cut a 2x4 it cut half way through with the saw, flipped it over to give it a chop or two and the first swing the HANDLE SNAPS OFF!

I can't believe it is not a full tang, seams like it could be a real weak point.
Anyone else come across this? I did want it, liked the strait handle with a saw back, thinking about snow shelters and could cut blocks with it.

But now I just want my 20 bucks back, what a waste of a drive, now I have to go an hour BACK to the store to return it!

Darkshadow, it does indeed suck. But I want to pay it forward. Send it to me with return postage (only because I am broke right now) and I'll make ya a full tang, although shorter, machette out of it. I had to do the same exact thing to my son in laws Gerber. But in his case it was kinda funny, he laughed at my cut down modified antique Collins and his snapped on the first swing. It'll be better than the new one they send you if you return it.

Wow, I have been toeing the line on getting one of those. I will now either totally defer, or wait for a few more reviews.
One question, is the blade long enough for it be modified by grinding the teeth and edge down, and add a set of slabs in position to make it full tang?

You'd probably have around 12 or 13 in blade, if I remember correctly. I think they have like 3 in. of tang running into the handle, so like another 2.5 in and ya got plenty of handle for most people.

Whoa .... I bought one of those .... so basically it's a piece of crap .. GREAT

KuRUpTD. if ya break it give me a shout, I'll hook ya up. Just give it a beating at home, not in the wilds ...

Somebody send me one and I''l take some pics :) Didn't take any of the s-i-l's. Not really any major work. Dremel tool with cut off wheels for the saw teeth, I keep an old wash tub of water to dip it in to keep it cool. Then grind it to shape, the handle that is and drill one hole up front for the forward part of the scales, use a masonary bit. Then it's just like any other scale job. Cut , epoxy and grind to shape. Right now I have a bunch of extoic woods, some may have slight imperfections . Think I am all out of micarta. If ya want micarta you could order it and send it with the machete.

No problem KuRUptd. I am usually in the shop from when I get home to supper time anyway. If I am not sick. I'll have a very long recovery, about a month out of work, and after a week or so, I'll die if I don't grind something. I can convex the edge for it to if ya want that.

ouch, haha. man that really bites, I hate it when a knife or what have you breaks on ya.

Good deal, sounds like I have a project to try out! Thanks!

on the upside, it looks like you got a good sheath out of it. you could use the sheath to house a tram.

Oh there getting it back, even if I have to load it in my canon :D

I might think about shortening it if they wont take it back, I am not going to mail it to gerber, being in Canada it will cost me too much, and I already paid more for it that any of my American brothers have too.

Hate to complain I am a Gerber man too. Maybe I just got a bad one, will give it another chance, hell it is only 20 bucks, just have to go easier on it
