Still looking for a good saw to harvest downed wood into firewood sized pieces. Please bear with me and my relentless questions.

Does anyone have any experience with the Gerber Gator Pack Saw:

I have seen similar designs at that large on-line auction site. I am mostly concerned about the quality of the blade. I would carry it strapped to my day pack.

Comments, suggestions, advice......

Weight looks reasonable but I wonder whether that grip would be annoying after a lot of sawing?

I have one and it does not impress me at all. However mine is very old and they may have changed the teeth since i got mine. That said, there are three that I can highly recommend in this Order, The Silky is great. The Bahco Laplander is terrific, and the Buck Tree saw is very good.

You have to try a silky to believe how fast and easy a little saw can cut.

You can get a Gerber Sportsman's saw for about $12 and it weighs 3.5 ounces and it will fit in any pack. I like the Kershaw/Bahco folder for strength and cutting ability. It too will fit in any day pack and is about 6.5 ounces. They run $25 or so. IMHO the smaller Silky saws are a little heavy for the cutting length, but no doubt about it, they will cut.

Keep in mind that many small saws are designed more for hunters sawing up big game rather than cutting wood.

I concur. If you go Silky, you might as well jump up to the Super Accel 210 because the cutting ability and strength get big boosts over the smaller units with only a modest weight penalty.
