Gerber has really impressed me

I recently had the sheath of my Gerber Camp axe destroyed by a moronic friend (hammering with the sheath on:mad: ). I actually really like this tool so I set out to purchase a new sheath. I searched and found nothing so finally contacted their customer service to see just how outrageous the asking price was for a replacement. To my surprise I was told that all I had to do was provide my name, address, and the exact model and they would send me a new sheath for FREE:D. I recieved it today (less than a week later) and its exactly right. Now who would do this? I can't think of anyone in this price range who would. Even though a lot of people (myself included) have made complaints about the quality of some of their products I will stick with this brand for the excellent customer service if nothing else.

Maybe I'm easily impressed...anyone else think this is great?
 
That sounds right, in more ways than one. Sporting knives (and probably cutlery in general) are one of those interesting product arenas where outstanding customer service has become a hallmark. I remember one brand that years ago advertised that if you lost one of their knives, they would replace it for free. Their logic? The product was so good, you weren't likely to lose it. I've heard good things about, and experienced first hand the same type of service from the other Oregon cutlery companies as well. Namely, CRKT, Kershaw and Benchmade have all exhibited outstanding service.
I recently drove to CRKT's location (which is not easy to find, let me tell you) and just "dropped in" to ask for a couple of spare parts (sheath clips, pocket clip screws, etc) They asked if I had the knives with me. I had one, so showed it to the lady I met. She asked me to wait and took it to someone in another room. Five minutes later, she brought back the knife, repaired and lubed, and she brought the parts I requested. She said they would have sharpened it, but it was already good. When asked what I owed for the parts and the quick service she answered "nothing", then gave me ALL of the new catalogs they have, and a retail price list for every product they offer.
Like you said about Gerber, this is great!!
