Gerber Knives...good or bad

The instant, all the bear grylls, 06 fast, para frames and swagger they had at walmart had the steels listed. Think they were all 7 cr except the bg para cord fixed blade it said cr5

Cool. Some of those were ones I looked at but couldn't find so thats an improvement. They are still at the base of the pile but looks like they're digging themselves out.

Yeah their not top shelf by no means. Just cheap beaters. The usa made knives are still pretty decent though. I carry a 06 auto thats been beat hard for years and it still works great. Havent even had to change the spring yet

Do you store it open? That's what I do with my sog and the spring seems to do better. My friend who doesn't even oil hi hc knives keeps em closed and they're useless.

Im not a gerber fanboy by no means. I have knives from most all of the companys out there.

Oh yeah I know. Same with me less gerber and exotic brands (ok fine I really don't have much that retails over $150 :p but...I have variety is my point) I'm beginning a collection.

I have a U.S. made Gerber multi tool that I carry and use every day. It works fine for everything I need it to do. I especially like the quick one handed deployment of the pliers, because that is the tool I use most often. Then the screw drivers. Never use the blade, I have my EDC for that.

That being said, none of their knives really do it for me. I have owned (and still have them) Gerber knives in the past, but found the quality not up to par.

For the price I'd rather have a sog multi tool. Some of gerber's are pricey.

I like the blunt nose mp 600 best. Only downfall is the short phillips screw driver. People can say what they want but the pliers on the mp 600 are strong!

My wife was in the army. 101st airborne air assault div. OIF vet. Brought back a few different gerber and benchmade autos and gerber multis

Cool! Actually I thought you were the vet, but cool.

What do you think of gerber's bear grills? I personally see them as awful.

I have the full size fixed blade and both size parangs. The ultimate fixed blade would be better if it was plain edge. Ive battoned alot of wood with it and the serrations are all ive been able to damage. I like the parangs. I must have got good ones cause ive not been able to break them yet.

Cool. I'm glad yours held up. My gator jr (no not a bg but a machete) busted first 10 mins

I havent used my gator machete yet. I dont think it will last long, looking at the handle and short tang

It won't. My advice is return it. I now own a sogfari 21" and it is 10x better. Just use the saw when cutting large logs. Don't chop unless straight down. Angle will warp blade.

The new ultimate pro is upgraded a lot. The biggest is the full tang and plain blade. They took the advice of a lot of users and upgraded to a usable and possibly a good knife. I would own it but I have other knives on my list I am looking at first.

Most people are put off by the orange. For what its designed for, getting out of a survival situation, I think it works its purpose well. Its not designed to be concealed.

I started liking the ultimate pro when I saw the video on YouTube of David from ultimatesurvivaltips beat it over 70 times with a sledge hammer into a log. If it wasn't tough before it certainly seems like it is now.
