Gerber LMF II VS Rat 4

Personally, my experience has been that 1095 and the other "high carbon" steels are very overrated! Face it, they are trying to meet a price point with this steel, plain and simple. There is some prejudice against "stainess" out there, but it is based on "old school" thinking from past generations when stainless didn't have the degree of development that it has today.

As for the LMF II, I picked one up the other day just to see what it is all about. That's one huge chunk of steel there! If I had to hack my way out of a downed aircraft, it would be an excellent choice.

But, out in the woods I would go with something from Fallkniven in preference to anything else out there.....

BS 1095 and other tool and carbon steels are far better then many stainless steels and im not old so i dont think old school. I belive imo that theres a duty for every diferent steel there is but 1095 is far better at many tasks the most stainless that are out there. The only thing stainles has is it wont rust as easy i have 154cm and aus8 blade that have a small amount of rust on them so carbon rusts just a little faster but holds and takes a better edge imo thats my .02 cents

That was my life when I was younger, Loved it. I hope my kids do it too. I ran accross the avatar on the net and it brought back some of my best childhood memories back.

I've been trying to get back into skating. It's been sooooo long. I feel like the weird old guy out there trying to ollie. When I was a teenager, many moons ago, I could skate a quarter pipe pretty well and had a good book of street tricks. Now, I'm scared to go fast down a hill. It's a lot different when you don't bounce anymore. lol

Both of these knives are thicker and heavier than I like to carry. I have owned both and both were worth the money but neither was what I would call a good cutter. For cutting I like a blade that is not over 1/8 inches thick and 1/16 is better yet.

I love 1095 steel but there are several SS that I like just as well and I do like the fact they SS is low maintenance.
