Gerber Mark I in a Bond Film

This weekend, I was watching "Tomorrow Never Dies" and noticed that Pierce Brosnan carries and uses a Gerber Mark I throughout the end of the film. They really showcase the knife in many close up scenes. Personally, I have always liked this knife as far as its size, quality, and appearance. It is my favorite of all the small Gerber daggers.

Does anyone know why Gerber decided to discontinue the Mark I and for that matter, many of the other double edge models? I thought those knives were the "bread and butter" of the company.

Tell me about it... All they have now is that ugly Limited Edition one, I want the old black ones to come back. Those were the best. They should use that knife for their logo instead of the sword.

When Fiskars took over Gerber they said that the Mark I, Mark II and most of the Guardian line weren't PC. Now they gives us the Yari and the Back-Up Guardian. The Yari is a nice knife...but no Mark II.

Gerber, are you listening? Bring back the Mark I and the Mark II. I would buy one of each. Who else would buy a new Mark I and/or a Mark II? What steel were these knives made of?

I'd buy one in a flash.

Any Brits here that used to watch 'Robin Of Sherwood' about 16 years ago? Nasir had 2 inverted on a harness.

I see the Gerber Mark I and II's in quite a few movies, was watching recently "Under Seige" Segal fights with a II I beleive.

That's right. Saw that a few weeks ago.

The other knife was more interesting to me though. Looked like a Mad Dog ATAK2. Or was it the Mission MPK copy of Kevin's ATAK? I can never tell.

Ookpik,

This is from a gentleman who has been collecting Gerbers for over 20 years. He said the Mark I & II were initially introduced with tool steel blades in the 60s and 70s. In the early 80s, they switched to 440-C, then in the early 90s, switched to 440-A. From the 60s through the 80s, they came in a leather sheath, then in the early 90s, they switched to Cordura. Apparently, they were discontinued in 1999 and unfortunately, passed into history.
