Could someone please tell me why some of the Gerber Mark II have a 10-12 degree cant on the blade, thanks for any info

I've heard three different reasons for the early MKII's to be canted.

1) The cant would cause the blade to ride closer to the body when worn on the hip or shoulder.

2) The cant has something to do with proper alignment for a kidney and other misc. stabs.

3) The cant allows better alignment when held in the saber grip. The point stays naturally in line with the arm.

Take your pick!! I "cant" remember which was the official reason from Gerber...probably the closer ride when worn.

I believe the earliest ones were made this way so when carried in a sheath they "rode" more comfortably on the belt. This is what I have read, it will be interesting to see if anyone else has any theories...Ed.

bought mine (mark 11) in '69 - the blade was advertised as having the cant so it carried better if memory serves - doesnt make much diff IMHO - that is the reason i have heard the most tooo

Are the Gerber Mk1 and Mk2 blades any good? More to the point are they any good now?

I like mine quite a bit(MK2). Seems very well made. Got it cheap from SMKW a while back. They've been discontinued though, I think.

mine has been a helluva good knife, back when i got it there werent a lot of factory made fighters to be had, so i got the mark 11 when i was in between boot and AIT in '69- paid $39.95 a hefty sum in those days (22 cent gas, brand new chevy truck 2200 dollars, ) but it has been a good knife - and, considering i wore it so much, the knife still looks pretty good, polished it up w/flitz a while back, got her good and sharp, but the sheath is TRASHED - might be time to check out blade tech for a new 1.......

i dont think they make the mark 1 or 11 anymore, think ya can still get the guardian though - i dont know about the quality on the later model blades though.......but gerber has a good rep - i occasionally see 1 at gunshows in this area , if ya want 1 check them out.....
