Gerber Mark ii

The price keeps going up because they haven't been made since 99 or 00 When they were discontinued along with the mkI.

Odd thing is that 6 months ago, most went for under / around $100 (or so I recall)
Now even heavily pitted ones for over $100...

Wow, this thread has been an eye-opener. I've had a Gerber Mark II sitting around for nearly 25 years that I've never used. I didn't realize it was actually worth something now. I might have to convert it into INFI:D

you are not recalling correctly vietnam era mark 11s have been high dollar for AT LEAST 10 yrs,

The Cuttlery Shoppe in Boise, Idaho has had some off and on. google them. Also, if the style impresses you, try a Randall #2.

I was talking about the more recent versions (or older ones that were beat up, had tips broken, were rusted to hell, etc).

Not for sale just yet, still the pride of my collection.
Shame it's only a 80's model. But the cordex sheath was the best IMHO.

Had a discussion when I was working in a knife shop on the term survival knife when applied to the MK2.
The teenager in question, at the height of the Rambo boom insisted it wasn't a survival knife because it didn't have a hollow handle and survival kit with it!! I explained this was the type of survival knife which as I put it 'if I had this knife and you didn't, I'd survive and you wouldn't!!'.
Well it shut him up at the time.

[[/QUOTE]

I think the 80's models were the best. They had good steel, excellent grinds(lacking from the 70's models), and the '90's models went for a higher choil/ricasso area that spoiled the lines. I have one from each era, the '70's model has the cat's tongue grip, and canted blade. Historically and economically very good, but as a tool, ehhhhh.

XMP, no, they were new. That was a couple of years ago so they may not have them now but there must might be one on a back shelf!

WOW ... I did not know there was such intrest in the early MKII's. I bought quite a few of these in the 70 / 72 ish range (new and used) along with many other Gerber "military" style knives. They were not really selling here and I just got to buying them and still have them all tucked away in my knife box. I noticed on (I think all) of the MKII's I have there was a "canted" blade, maybe not all, I'll have to look to know for sure. Great Thread!
