Gerber Mk II

I have a chewed up Mark I that I got from a friend. I don't know what she used the knife for, but the blade and handle are really dinged up. I wonder if Gerber does restoration work like Buck Knives...

I'm getting in on this discussion way late!

I've been interested in Gerber MK II's for a long time, but just recently decided to get my hands on some. I've got two now.

I have an older MK I, but since it was NIB at a gun show, I don't have a reference on how old it is.

Has anyone any information on whether or not there is a date of production table on the MK I like on the MK II??

Thanks!

Here are some MK IIs I've picked up in that last month, I'm really diggin these knives.

niiiiiiiice. I got 2 m2s , a virginia ek and some older cold steel tantos as well.

I got a Mark I from 1980, and a Mark II from 1978. Paid $250 for the II, and $85 for the I.

Overall there pretty sweet knives.... to bad Gerber went for crap. Well I guess thats what happens when large companies like Fiskars buy everything.

I have 6 Explorer copies and a unfinished MKII. The handle is not painted and the flashing is not trimmed around the handle. Serrations only on one side. I will try and post pics. I love that style. I have been bugging them with emails to resurrect that design for about 2 years now.

Someone asked what's up with these knives. I didn't know myself until recently; When my uncle passed two years ago I got his gun and knife collection. In the collection were a number of Gerber knives including one that was later called the guardian. This one, oldest he carried overseas in 1968 & has a SN of 5052.
A number of years ago he was showing me his collection and he said this knife had saved his life a number of times and had taken more than a few too.
I guess these knives mean diferent things to different people. For some they are collection pieces, for one man at least they're a reminder of better times.

Well according to Knifecenter's SHOT report, it looks like the Gerber MkII is going to re-released.

Yee-har!
