I got a Gerber GE7550 together with six hex bits a couple of days ago. The multi-tool is black. When I received it, it was almost as if it was covered with soot. I spent an hour or so wiping it with a towel, and it's not completely clean yet.
Besides that, the tool itself is ok, but the pliers seem a bit loose, due to the fact that the pliers are retracted into the handles by two push buttons on the sides of the handles.

Has anyone else got the tool and would like to comment on it?
To me, it seems ok, especially since there is a 50% sale at Swedish Fällkniven, http://www.fallkniven.com , and I only paid $60 for it.

I, too, purchased a black Gerber multitool at a deep discount from Smoky Mountain Knife Works, and mine was covered in some sort of oily residue as well. I didn't notice any problems with the tool -- the pliers head seems normal for the Gerber tools -- but I must admit I wasn't pleased with the greasy coating. Still, it wasn't bad for what I paid.

Don't have that particular model, but have owned 3 differnet Gerber multitool configuration over the last couple years. I was pleased with each of them. The only complaint that I have, and I do mean only complaint, is that I wish the main blade would have been slightly wider.

I had a Gerber multitool several years ago. Pinched the crap out of my finger when the pliers slipped off a bolt and the two handes grabbed a hunk of meat on my middle finger (the underside, between the first joint and the knuckle). Traded it for a Leatherman.

I think they fixed newer ones, as the two handles, when the pliers are completely closed, dont touch. Still, I'd be careful. Bead blast finishes rust too (they do look nice though)

Carried one for at least three years now. Really like it.

The only trouble I've had was a broker screwdriver head. It was my fault, I was trying to pry with it, they sent me a new one at no charge(the implement). I have two of them an older blunt nose Multi-tool, and a newer needle nose one. They are a great tool. RKBA!
