Text from the Gerber brochure:

"These deluxe hunting knives with new, handsome blade designs, are hand-crafted from an exclusive high speed tool steel - hard enough to cut other steel!
Having a super-hardness of Rockwell C60-62, each blade is ground to a straight, double wedge shape for razor sharpness and extra strength to withstand the roughest use.
A special hard chrome plating keeps these blades permanently bright and stainless.
The solid aluminum alloy handles are cast directly onto the notched tang of the blade.
Armorhide, a ground thermoseetting vinyl material, is then permanently fused to the handle to create a non-slip firm gripping surface, even when hands are wet or slippery."

Steel: M2 Tool steel
Handle: Cast on aluminum with "Armorhide" (a baked on electro deposited powdered epoxy coating)

I have several of those M-2 steel A400's and their bigger brothers and God help you if you try sharpening them with anything besides diamond steels or a belt sander. That is one tough steel but it holds an excellent edge.

Mine have skinned out quite a few deer and pigs and still look as good as new just requiring slight touchups on a diamond steel to maintain that razor edge. Kwackster, if you use that knife you will like it even more.

@ Alex; the A400 is currently clamped in the Wicked Edge sharpener, and it will be reprofiled and sharpened to 30 degrees inclusive.
I already noticed that it's quite a hard steel and very wear resistant too.
It will take some time before it's finished,

That's the Gerber I remember from when I was a kid. They weren't "retro" enough for me then (I fancied myself a mountain man I suppose). Now I wish I had gotten some of them as that's the kind of thing I like these days....all business.
