Gerber or CRKT?

I just think CRKT has gone downhill--their PREMIUM steel is AUS-8, which is slightly less than (in my book) under 440C. Many use Aus-4 (???). You could just about sharpen those with a dinner plate. I am not a super steel snob, but at least give me 440C! Most of my knives are 154CM...

Now CRKT makes some good looking knives--the M16-13Z is a looker and sells for about $30, but it is Aus-4, which does not "cut it" in my book. The LAWKS was a good thing, but they dumped some good knives like the Viele Wasp....I guess if you want an inexpensive, nice looking, easy to sharped blade, then CRKT has some offerings.

Sorry to the CRKT fans, but I am sad to see their materials drop in quality...

It's not good that some of their products have dropped, but their staples retain their midgrade steels and some of their new knives have gone to 154cm.

Sorry....I am not up to date on the 154CM stuff from CRKT. That's good. I guess the low end got lower but the high end got better...

Well, and their middle end stayed...middler....you can still get AUS8 on the M16. I wish they'd use a compression lock and VG10 or something. I would buy a second one if they did that.

But yeah, the new Voodoo and Wild Weasel, both of which I like and are pretty good deals, are using 154CM.

They're also relocating some production to the USA instead of Taiwan--both of those knives are made in the USA.

I think I've been too hard on CRKT. They've made decisions I'm not happy with and decisions I am. Mixed bag.

Benchmade on the other hand....
