Gerber knives currently seem to be much cheaper in the UK than they were at one time. Not sure if they're cheaper generally and if there's a reason for that (such as declining quality.) While I've not been too impressed by the Gerber knives I've owned in the past, I quite like the look of their Profile and was thinking of picking one up (costs about $35 here.) Anybody have any experience of it?

decent knife my son has one, came sharp and seems to hold it okay hasnt seen any really hard use though, pretty cool knife very chunky feel to it, overall a nice size blade and relatively thick
The sheath is garbage though:barf: make your own:thumbup:

i'd recommend it not bad for the $19 bucks it cost here:)
best of luck

Thanks for the info Ivan. A friend used to bring me anything I wanted back from regular Stateside trips to see his folks. With all the knife/flying hysteria though he's gotten nervous - I have to settle for pairs of Carharts and a few other goodies! :)

Even at the higher price, I think I'll give it a go.

All the best

Does anyone know what the steel used is?

I own one and think it was a bargain. Not the best knife I've owned, but definitely not the worst. I've heard that the steel is the Chinese equivalent of AUS8, 440A, or 420HC, depending on what site you happen to be looking at. Personally, I would compare its performance to 440A. It needs to be touched up more often than my better blades, but it is quite easy to sharpen. I can't complain since I only paid 20 bucks for it. It's always good to have a beater that you don't actually worry about beating!
