Gerber quality

Thanks guys, I'm pretty much devastated at the moment. I was under the impression that Gerber was a good brand. Ah well. Thanks, any more suggestions?

Don't feel so bad...live and learn. I suspect that I'm about a hundred years older than you, and when I got into the knife thing about 3 years ago, my first purchase was a Gerber. Bass Pro is just full of them. They seemed cool and the price seemed reasonable. At the time, I thought that spending 20 bucks on a knife put me in the "Big Time".

After getting involved in this forum, I really learned a lot about "quality" and all of the aspects that go into a "Quality Knife". My guess is that initially, your Gerbers will work fine. They'll probably dull fairly rapidly. Then you'll progress to the "Sharpening Junkie" phase of the sickness.

Many folks here, myself included, become a tad obsessive about buying. The reality is you probably only need a couple of good knives. A Good Folder and a Good Fixed Blade.

Save your dollars and when you can, start looking at the Spyderco line. I truly think that they make a hell of a knife at a reasonable price.

Good luck and visit often. Its amazing what you can learn here.

my first "big time" knife was a Gerber Gator from Wal-Mart, i still love that knife though, it just fills your hand so well

i'd echo the Spyderco thing, i just got a Delica 4 and i have to say, i'm pretty impressed

and i'd add a multitool/SAK to the "need" list :)

My advice is if you got a Paraframe, either send it back or throw it away. The knife uses just about the worst steel in the industry and is only a modicum above sharpened plastic.

If you want a truly great price on a decent knife, try spending about $16 for this one. It's the best deal on a knife I've seen anywhere.

I've had Paraframes before and they're junk. You could hurt yourself trying to cut some things or, at the best, just ruin the knife.
Last Confederate, you have found a hell of a deal........thats a good knife at giveaway prices!

Thanks,
Kap
