Would appreciate hearing from you pros here on this model from Gerber. I know it is fairly new with 420HC steel and has had some favorable reviews but would like to hear from members who have purchased one and are satisfied. If so I would be using it for camping and to carry while backpacking. Looks pretty decent for around $55. Thanks for any replies and opinions.

First things first... you don't need our approval for anything.

Next, if you think something looks appealing to you and it's only $50-ish bucks, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

You could contribute something valuable to this community if you pick one up and post a good, objective review on it. Check the "review" forum.

I liked the Strongarm. The family member who "just had to have it" (and now has it) likes it as well. It's a perfectly adequate "camping" piece.

There aren't any frills, and you'll probably have to put on an edge that works for you. But it is WELL worth what you will pay for it.

Thanks for your comments. Appreciate the info as I am new to collecting and want to ask opinions before buying. Will check out the "review" forum as I should have done earlier. Again thanks

Check out the 'Gauntlet' video series on youtube. They ran the Strongarm through some rough stuff and it shined. For 50 dollars it's a winner. Don't expect it to hold a razers edge for weeks on end, but then again it will take a razors edge and is easy to sharpen. A lot of people don't hold Gerber in very high regard but often make an exception for the Strongarm.

This is a knife forum Vel, he's asking a general question in the general forum. There's been dumb questions on here before. Mauser9's question isn't one of them.

Wasn't trying to make him sound like he asked a dumb question, bt93... was trying to be short and matter-of-fact...

mauser9, if I sounded condescending, believe me I ain't.

I sincerely meant that you don't need anybody's approval to pick up a knife that appeals to you, and that if you pick up that Strongarm, please drop in and tell us all what you think of it. Also sincerely meant that you should check out the review forum, because some folks have put up some good info on the knife that may help you make your decision.

Also sincerely meant that I like the Strongarm and I feel that it is worth the price they are asking.

bt93 points out a decent YouTube review of this knife as well. Another good resource that might help you decide on the Strongarm. Worth checking out.

bt93, hope that clears it up. mauser9, hope you pick this one up. I think you'll enjoy it.

No offense taken gentlemen. Appreciate advice and opinions given. Glad to hear it sounds like a quality blade worth purchasing. Quite new to forum and am impressed with the knowledge of the members.

I have one and really like it. It is a nice compact size, has a comfortable handle and a good versatile sheath.

Been using mine for a bush/camping knife the last 6 months and it's holding out fine. 420HC seems to be a good user steel , easy to sharpen , and edge holding is pretty good also. Kind of tactical looking , but for what it is and what I paid it's very capable so far. Sheath system is very adaptable also and smooth operating. Not my main user , but works well.
