Gerber vs leatherman

I tried a cheap gerber at the store a while back ago. It felt like a piece of junk. The tools barely opened, the knife was not sharp, it just didn't feel like a quality knife. I ended up getting a leatherman. The change in quality was drastic. Maybe their higher ends stuff is better.

IS leatherman sill made in the us becouse I have the wave and I don't see USA anywhere on the knife, also at cabela's online it does not say USA or imported, I have been looking around, my uncle has a 30 or so year old leatherman and it says USA on the pliers.

I would choose Leatherman every time.

That being said my younger brother has worked construction for 6 years and for 6 years he’s had a Gerber tool on his belt that I know has seen an incredible amount of use. Its held up very nicely.

p.s. Swisstool over either of them.

Leatherman tools are still mostly made and assembled in Oregon, but some parts in them are fabricated or processed offshore. Some years ago, California successfully sued the company as not compliant with strict state laws regarding domestic content. One result was that Leatherman could no longer sell tools in CA with "USA" on them. Even though these same products were enough US-made for sale in other states, Leatherman discontinued the designation for their entire product line.

Leatherman tools are about as US-made as manufactured things get these days.

I bought the original Leatherman PST, which I later upgraded with the purchase of the original Leatherman Supertool.

I believe that the design, materials, manufacturing and construction tolerances and standards of Leatherman tools to be unequaled!

The Leatherman Supertool, Crunch, Micra, and a Victorinox Swiss Champ live on my belt with a Fenix P3D, I really don't think it gets any better than this.

Leatherman tools have never compromised on quality, and as the inventor of the genre, have always led the way with ingenuity, quality and strength in their tools.

Whom Tim Leatherman chooses to support in an entirely lawful manner is of no relevance to the decision criteria applicable to tools which one may rely on to aid survival for one's family or self!

The firms political position may not matter to you and that is your right, but it does to me. I'd never buy a thing from Leatherman.

All I gotta say is that my Leatherman Squirt is one handy little tool. Tough as nails and for its super small size I barely feel it on my keychain yet it opens up to reveal alot of tools that can handle a bunch of small chores. However, like godot, I am a bit disturbed that Tim Leatherman is a democrat. Oh well. Enjoy the pics.

2)and which would you pick GERBER or LEATHERMAN??
I have one of the first generation of Gerber multi-tool that has served me well for well for many years now. A very solid piece of workmanship. Unfortunatly, the quality of the Gerber MTs seems to have dropped in recent years and I have been very unimpressed with the examples I have examined recently. I would definetly go with the Leatherman these days.

i said i heard nothing but good things about them,
Honestly, I have not heard nothing but bad things about current Gerber MTs, from people who are familiar with the offerings of Leatherman and Victorinox.

plus the us military trust them.
Two words... lowest bidder. :p

Victorinox.

I carry a Gerber in my tankbag of my motorcycle, mostly because it is too bulky for a pocket and has a remgrit blade. The jaws dont even line up. The handles are pot metal and the blade touches it with the edge. Xmas present from my mom a few years back.

I carry a looooooong Gerber in my tackle box that is VASTLY better than the other one. It is in there because I got it on sale for like 18 bucks.

I started carrying a Swisstool a month or 2 ago everyday to work. Dont know what the hell I did without it. It is excellent.

I have no interest in Leatherman tools. Personal reasons.

Leatherman over Gerber. I've never used a SOG or a Vic Spirit, but have heard good things.

I like the way that the Leatherman pliers open as compared to the Gerber. The Gerber slides out, so if you squeeze your hardest to get a good grip and then slip off whatever you're gripping, then the tool will slam shut on your fingers/palm. That doesn't happen with the Leatherman b/c of the design. One time was all it took for me to learn that very painful lesson, and I won't use the Gerber or any design like that again.

The downside of Leatherman for me is that you can't swap out accessories, but overall with the warranty, the price, and the quality, they're hard to beat.

I don't Gerber is even manufacturing any of their multi-tools in the USA anymore.

Leatherman and Victorinox are 2 top-tier manufacturers. I prefer Victorinox for their simplicity, design, and fit-and-finish. Leatherman has a more diverse line-up of tools. Both are top notch.

got a gerber.... replacement under warranty... just broke the second without even trying!!! leatherman next time for sure :-)

I have heard leatherman has excellent customer service if you ever have a problem with one of there tools. I have had a leatherman for approximately 5 years and have never had a problem, so I have not ever had to contact them. When I need another multi-tool (if I ever do) it will be a leatherman.

I know Leatherman makes a quality tool, but I like my SOG powerlock over em' all.
