Gerber vs sog

I like the older models, from the 70s 80s, and 90s, from both companies. Not a fan of much anything after that, from either company. I still have a SOG S1, and an Agency, but that's it. I'd like to find another Tomcat, tho. And I've owned quite a few Gerbers.

I like this thread. It is young children and poor folks arguing about which instant noodle pack is the "most gourmet".

That one looks spicy, like it has some good flavor, unlike Gerber, SOG, or Buck knives. Gerber was good back in the day, SOG was tasty for like a month or two, and Buck, while not super tasty, is at least not going to upset you stomach (unless you have a tender tummy)....

At first I was like "hmm" lot of buck knife fans on this thread. But then I reread GbtB's name. Real doh moment.

You guys got CLASS! Pays to know what you are spending your money on. Better a small collection of quality than a boatload of junk. Best to read here before blowing money on on inferior quality.

Which knife brand do you guys think is better? Gerber or sog?
The thing you'll notice about this place is that it's full of a lot of guys who have been very deep into the knife hobby for many years. I first came here in 2008 with kind of the same outlook on knives as you now seem to have and asked a lot of questions that I felt kind of foolish asking later because I was young and curious and although I knew more about knives than most people I came across out there in the world, I didn't know hardly anything when compared with the guys and gals here. I'd recommend just doing a bunch of reading if you'd like to learn a lot more about the materials that are used in knives, the steels, how important the heat treatment of said steels is etc.
Another thing you'll notice is that your ideas of what you think are the top dog knives will usually get shat on and you might feel bad about your knives all of a sudden haha. Try not to feel like that though, everybody is at a different point in their lives and knife collecting. People here, myself included, tend to get jaded and start to kind of look down on anything that's not the lastest and greatest of materials, or the truest and time tested of traditionals. It's just like any hobby though. Most of the people here have spend many years of their life researching this stuff and with that you get a lust for the "best". Like I said, I first came here seriously in 2008 and even then I'm kind of a young gun around here.
One thing I've learned is try to hold onto those ideas you have now and appreciate what you have. We really don't need all this Spyderco heat treated Maxamet, titanium framelocks and timascus clips. For most of us a Gerber such and such would do us just right. Just learn to sharpen and maintain your knives, that's the most important thing. By the way, all knives will rust if they sit around unused long enough. Keep them oiled or waxed in something like Renassaince Wax if you put them away for awhile. Have fun my friend.
By the way, I really like my Gerber multitools. I have a few old school Gerbers knives that I really appreciate too.

I don't know if it's just me, I'm a little funny in the head, too many concussions, but I got a kick out of the guy.

I never took him seriously, and I was smiling and laughing throughout his threads. I was just waiting to see what thread he would start next, and he didn't disappoint.

Let's remember that he's 14 years old (at least that's what it originally said in his profile). What were we like at that age. So maybe we can cut him a little slack, and maybe we can actually teach him some valuable stuff about knives.

Just a thought :).
