Gerber ???

I used to own a few and should have kept them. Familiar story. I just ordered a Firestorm. I'll be back with a review.

I don't carry many of them any more but I collect some. I used to collect a lot of Mark II,s but only have about 6 or 8 old ones now. I have a few Mark I's a Guardian three piece boxed set, several Pauls, some Bolt Actions, a couple of First Folding Hunters and a few misc. others.

I do have a nice collection of the Silver Knights; I think I may have all of the standard production models along with a few odd-ball models. I also have a pretty wide selection of LST's boardering on excessive.

Which models interest you the most?

I used to carry a first production run ezout... utill I lost it in an attic. I have still got a few folders and guardian camo 1-3, two guardian 1s, guardian, 2 command 1s, 2 mark 1s, 2 mark 2s, 1 presentation mark 2. cool knives.

I really like the Gerbers from the 80's. I've got a BMF (no serrations), a Parabellum, TAC II (cause I really like "Big trouble in little China" in which it was featured), SS II fieldlite (If I remember correctly, basically a larger LST) Guardian II that I found at National Guard summer camp, and from more recent times a Gerber multitool and a Silver Trident.
I would like to get an LMF II especially if they would make it without serrations.
I think Gerber still makes some good knives they are just fewer than what they once were.

Greetings
I am very fond of the old stainless steel/wood models... My EDC is 450 Easy out that I modified slightly (opened up the thumb slot)...
My 3 inch Green Silver Knight saved a 3 year old boy from a dobberman attack.

Used to like Gerber. 10 years ago I got a gerber knife as a gift. less than a week of using it for normal cutting, the blade literally snapped in half. I was cutting through a cardboard box, straight not crooked, and it just snapped in half. I had a pair of gerber compact 400 multi tools which were junk. Than I was stupid and bought a mini paraframe, and quick took it back after i saw "made in china" on the box. I contacted gerber, and they said most of their knives and newer multi-tools are now made in china. Looks like I will never be doing business with gerber again.

I own a Gerber Armorhide fixed blade and a Loveless designed boot knife. The Armorhide has a slightly rough textured handle which works great and the steel is a chromed high speed tool steel I think. It is great knife holds an excellent edge and sharpens up fairly easy. Bob Loveless said these are great knives and he could not compete at those prices. Bought this Gerber fom House Of Blades in Ft. Worth in 1978 for 35 dollars. I wish I had some of those great Gerber knives I bought from the seventies when Gerber made some of the best kinives in the world. After Fiskars bought them out they went down. They may have a few good knives still but you would have be careful as most are China junk.

The BMF is one Bad Mother F.....! One of the best '80s survival knives.
LMF and BMF, the Little -- -- and the Big -- --. At least that's how Robert DiNiro explained it in The Fan, where he acted the role of a knife salesman who's infatuated with a sports team.

I have a few Gerbers, mostly from the 80s and 90s:

Gator
Magnum Jr. (freebee from Danner boots)
Silver Knights, two or three of these. Contract-made in Japan, excellent quality.
Gerber-Benchmade Rolox
EZ-Out, First Production

Wouldn't mind having a few more, but I don't purposefully seek them out.

Those Japan made Silver Knights were Excellent made knives. Moki may have made them or the forerunner of Al Mar Knives. Al Mar was designing knives for Gerber in the seventies. I had some really Early Al Mar knives and they very well made knives.

baught a bmf pe in '88 at the px and it served me well. a cop stole it from me. :grumpy::eek::( i want to get one now, but the price point is not very arractive.

had a 2 bolt action's (both skinner and droppoint. served me well and also both stolen (not by cops :D), both by scumbag criminals!

with the technology, steels, and lot's of custom and production varieties available to us all, gerber has been passed and lapped (imo). also don't like the made in china thing. yeah i know they still make certain models here in USA, but please, i haven't seen a good looker (imo) since the bigmutha....

and last of all, i baught busse (pass the koolaid please! :D)

like i said, i still want a bmf, but for $200+, i'll buy a swamprat, scrapyard, ranger, bill seigle, ...;)

I used to have a small magnum LST which very faithfully served me in the role of cutting tape and ripping cardboard boxes apart. Granted, it had a very soft blade and needed frequent sharpening, but it was still a fun little knife that weighed next to nothing and served me well. I do like recurve profiles in small blades.

I have--although rarely now use--an LST I bought in the fall of '88, my last year of high school (that's right: 20 year's ago; I'm getting old). It was my EDC for probably 15 years, a time that included more than one job that involved a lot of cutting of boxes, shrink-wrap and nylon strapping.

Made in USA.

While it's not designed for this, it's now a very easy one-hand opener and closer, if you know the trick.

Here she be (photo taken July 3, 2008):

My feelings exactly. In a previous post I spoke about almost the same type of situation with a Chinese made Gerber that I bought. Gerber used to be a great knife company until they started moving production "overseas". The FS II is still one of my all time favorite knives.

gerber makes some quality knives
like the:
freeman folder:thumbup:
hinderer rescue knife:thumbup:
mini fast draw:thumbup::thumbup:
those are my three the freeman and the hinderer are top notch the fast draw i bought on a whim and i beat the daylights out of it for two years even took the damn thing apart cause i got sand in it at the beach, put it together and the little guy works fine actually gave it to my 11 year old last year:)
gerber makes some junk thats for sure but they do have some excellent knives just research before ya buy
for what its worth, they still make some pieces in portland and my freeman was made in taiwan i believe.
