I've had a Paraframe for a couple of years now but because of the weird handle that messes with the pocket clip I haven't really carried it much. I'm sure it would function just fine but if I had paid full price I'm sure there would be a lot of other knives I would have wished I had bought instead. I picked up an old 90's (probably) Applegate Fairbairn used for cheap and the quality is definitely many times better than the paraframe's. Even if its is a mystery steel, it took a good edge and for it intended "combat" use it doesn't really matter. Got a Gerber Void and Curve gift pack on sale after christmas. The Curve is a neat little keychain multitool which is the reason I bought it, so to me the Void is just a $5 throw in knife. For that price I'm pretty happy. It opens smoothly and came nice and sharp, though the fit and finish isn't great. But again, if its really the same model that goes for $30 I'd probably be pissed if I paid that much for it. Not all of Gerber's stuff is crap. They're getting better and starting to make knives in the USA again. If the Bear Grylls like wasn't just a bunch of overpriced stuff they already made with his name and ugly orange slapped on it. Some of that stuff might interest me if the price reflected the quality a bit better and they weren't all ugly as sin. Plus I just wouldn't want to use something thats basically the survival equivalant of mallninja. There's just so much better stuff for less money from lots of other companies that I think that's really gerber's downfall. I'm hopefull that they're taking a turn for the better like it looks like Schrade has so we'll see what happens.
