Picked these up several years ago. Going to give to my son and nephew and was wondering year of manufacture and steel?

Gerber StrongArm. First sold in 2015, still in production. The blade steel is 420HC.

There are counterfeit/fake "StrongArms" out there. I can't tell from your pics if yours are real. That leather sheath is not original to the knife.

Go to the Gerber website under fixed Gerber gear the Model is called strongarm and looks to be current
 
I asked AI just now how to identify fakes. It was a good checklist. Looks like mine are okay. I bought them at gun shows from individuals
 
How can I tell if they're fakes? What pictures from different angles help to identify?
If memory serves, there are a couple of pretty good YouTube videos out there which illustrate the differences between real and fake. I would trust those above AI results, if only because there are actual pictures.
