German Eye Brand Stag?

Here's hoping I have a little luck with a (large) stag Eye Brand stockman I placed an order for today. I did call the vendor and ask him to cherry pick one for me so we'll see what we come up with in a few days.
I'm pretty confident he'll do the best he can.

Just got in a large Eye Brand stockman in stag this afternoon and after a little loving on my Edge Pro and some ceramic hones it's a screamer!:cool:

I just had to bite on one after being quite pleasantly surprised by the "yellow" synthetic version I received last week. (This even though I was a bit leery of playing the mail order crap shoot on a stag version.)

Fortunately for me, I asked Mike Latham of collectorkinves.net if he'd mind terribly looking through his inventory for one that fit my parameters.

Other than desperately needing sharpening I was quite pleased with the knife as delivered today. Nice stag, well fitted; not too thick and the knife is actually 1/8 oz. lighter than my bone handled Case 6375's (from the 80's and late 90's). This knife is going right into the pocket.

I'd not hesitate to ask Mike to pick one for me again in the future.

C'mon Blues, you know how we play this game. One thing I love with getting a new knife is sharing it with my forum buds. Pictures please!

Christian, it gets dark early these days and I don't have a light box (and don't want one, thanks). Tomorrow (aside from being generally reserved for football) is calling for rain but I'll try to get a shot or two on the porch or deck if weather permits.

It does look quite a bit like this image from the website:

Actually, now that I compare the images of my new knife with the one from the website (above), I think that the one I received is nicer.

Okay, here's the best I could do this morning before the rains hit. The knife is 4.25" closed and weighs 3 7/8 oz. (The synthetic yellow scaled version weighs 3.5 oz.):

That's a beaut. The stag scales are as well matched as any I've seen from a production slip. Is that a modern knife or old stock? I'm no expert on EB knives, but I have that same model and my specimen doesn't have the matchstriker pulls.

Christian, I haven't the foggiest but I'm pretty sure it's at least relatively new. Perhaps Mike or one of the Eye Brand enthusiasts can provide more info. Dennis Strickland and Wil Terry come to mind as they both know and collect Eye Brand knives.

blues this is current production in fact a design change from many earlier stocks.the stag is well matched .i'll try to get by mark cruse on monday & pull his catalog .i need some belts for sharpener so i have to go anyway all real eyes are still being produced in same factory. hans schlieper is not at plant but still receives royalties on all eye production.

Thank you, Dennis.

i have good luck with Mike also.
he is easy to talk to and info on his site is a book in itself .
i always ask the dealer to cherry pick for stag. mismatched is cool with me.
the gnarlier the better.

all the Eye Brand stag congress knives i have , have super fat stag handles. pretty cool.
older Bulldogs have nice mellow stag.
Fightin' Rooster stag is very well matched , from what i've seen
i am not real crazy about burnt or torched stag...

I bought my Eye Brand Muskrat in Stag from a trusted source here in the UK and so I can't really help you. I have to say it's one of the best I have.

I'd still love a Stockman like the pics in this thread. Beauties. One of these days......

I love my Eye Brands. I have a copperhead with jigged bone handle; a large stockman and a locking sodbuster, both with that appealing yellow plastic handle material, and at a recent trade fair in Solingen I bought a very limited big traditional slipjoint with jigged bone handle - this one looks a bit like a non-locking Buck 110, not like a sodbuster.

Characterful knives that cut very well.
