I picked up a couple nice little hatchets at an estate sale today. One is a Plumb in very good condition with just the snap missing on the sheath. The other was made in Germany, a 'Strong Boy', also in very good condition.

I'm posting some pics of the 'Strong Boy'. The handle is stamped 'Premium'. I think it's made of Ash (I've changed my mind and now think it is hickory). It has a very solid sound and feel to it. The fawns foot handle is is probably the most comfortable hatchet handle I've ever held. It just feels really good in the hand.

The 'Strong Boy' stamp is clear. There is a remnant of a decal which had black lettering on a gold background.

From the condition I'm guessing this must be a fairly new hatchet - made post re-unification. It's stamped 'Drop Forged, Made in Germany', not West Germany.

This afternoon I sharpened this hatchet and polished the dings out of the poll. The hairs literally fly off my forearm when testing sharpness and it even does a passable job on my beard. It's fricken scary sharp.

got any photos of the Plumb
all good

buzz

is it just me or is the server still kinda slow???

The poll has most of its original paint, too. Looks like it may have driven a few tent stakes but it was never beaten on with a hammer.

The rounded-over fawns foot shows the grain about 20° off of vertical, perfectly acceptable.
