I came across a steel vendor in Germany. http://www.schmiedeglut.de/shop-messermacherbedarf/messerstahl/ They are a small operation, relatively speaking, and I believe they make knives at their shop as well. VERY nice people to talk to and do business with. I started this thread because I wanted to help spread the word about a steel that I am just simply loving to death. It is 1.2519, also known as 110WCrV5, O-7, and OW3. The vendor has this steel, along with 1095, O2, 80CrV2, 15n20, C75, 55Si7, 1.2067 (52100), D2, 1.4112, and of course the 1.2519. They just recently added 2.5mm thick 1.2519, as all they had previously was 1.6mm and 5mm thick bars. They got made into a petty knife (1.6mm) and a big camp knife (5mm). Now that they have the 2.5mm stock, I am in heaven. To give you an idea, 1.2519 is pretty darn close to Hitachi's Blue #2. From ZKnives comparison.....Blue #2 is blue and 1.2519 is red. Carbon: 1.05-1.15 1.10-1.30 / Cr: .20-.50 .35-.85 / Mo: 0.0 .30 / V: 0.0 .40 / W: 1.00-1.50 1.00-2.00 / Ni: 0.0 .30 / Mn: .20-.30 1.00 / Si: .10-.20 .60.

To give you an idea of shipping (right now their shipping calculator to the US is way off.....email them directly), I just ordered two 3 ft bars of 1.2519 2.5mmx50mm, and the total with shipping to San Antonio Texas was 40 Euros. Not too shabby!!!! They said they would cut down the bars to 13" for me to save in shipping costs, no charge to cut. They use Paypal, so it is a very fast, easy transaction, and to be perfectly honest, I placed an order with Schmiedeglut a number of weeks ago (this is in Germany remember) at the same time as an order with "Baldo" (don't tell him I called him that!). The Germany order arrived two days before. Super fast shipping and super nice people.

My friend, you bring very good news!!!!!!!

Excellent

I will get a few bars to tinker with. Hopefully that 0.3% Ni is too low to negatively affect my ht recipe.
