This is Gerry McGinnis' Mini Vicarious Ultralight framelock flipper, the first of my 3 scores from the Vegas 2007 show this past weekend. Gerry is one of the hottest up-and-coming makers around, and the 6 knives that he brought to Vegas are arguably his best yet.
The Mini Vicarious is the smaller version of Gerry's newest flipper model, and the "Ultralight" in its name comes from the fact that while the lock-side handle slab is titanium, the other handle slab is made of carbon fiber, which makes the knife even easier to manipulate. With a 3 1/8" blade and a 6 7/8" OAL, this folder makes an ideal EDC for an office work environment, which is what I will use it for.
As mentioned before, Gerry's work on this piece is impeccable. The fit and finish is flawless, and his handle contouring not only makes the knife very comfortable in the hand, it really brings out the best in the weave pattern of the CF slab. The flip action is excellent; I can flip the knife completely open with no wrist movement whatsoever holding it in any position, even vertical. The lock up is tight and strong as well.
Hats off to Gerry for his great work on this knife, and congrats to him for selling all of his pieces fast!
