Get Home Bag & ESEE's--Tell me what you think?

Is that a grease pencil? They are a great idea if not. I would ditch the mechanical pencil and extra lead for just a regular pencil.

Do you have extra room in your altoids tin? If you have a just a little room you could add some of those marsh mellows for fishing. They work great and can sometimes be used.

That is one heck of an expensive water filter. Do you have any kind of purifier as well? I couldn't tell from the picture but do you have an extra ziplock bag so the the suction hose can be separated from the rest of the kit once it is used?

I am not sure if you need it but I never leave home without some chapstick tied off to my lighter.

How about some laminated 3x5 cards with illumination tape on one side for leaving notes.

Is that an army bivy sack? If so don't expect it to keep you dry. Might want to look at just a tarp.

Are those snares? I have done a lot of snaring for small game in AK. You might want to try those out if you haven't already. They don't look like they would work well but if they do can you share the source where you got them?

What kind of bullets are you carrying in your AR? I usually shoot 77gr matchking out of mine but am anxiously awaiting the weather to get warmer than -40f so I can try out some barnes. The last critter I shot with the 77gr made me work my butt off tracking it. I am hoping the barnes make them go bang flop a little quicker.

Who is listening on the other end of your radio? Do those have a weather or news station? I have never used those so I don't know what they are capable of.

Oh yeah. 20miles is not a short walk. Throw in a change of socks and you will enjoy it a little better. I prefer the "darn tuff" socks. They are the one sock I haven't walked holes into yet.

Overall a good kit but I would suggest not putting all your eggs in one basket. I use a pack and my duty belt is clipped to that. When I put it on I have my kit separated in case my pack goes in the drink or whatever other compromise you can think of. More than once I have found myself swimming one way with my atv swimming the other. I have always recovered everything but that may not be the case some day.

do you actually drag the AR around with you on a daily basis?

my CHB lives in the truck 24/7.

has a change of clothes, some cold weather gloves, some work gloves, loaded spare mags for the EDC CCW, spare flashlight and batteries, FAK and some ther goodies, plus some granola bars and water.

it's about to get overhauled, but i won't be keeping a long gun in it full time.
no manuals. go practice and learn the skills. leave the books at home.

your headlamp takes AAAs, your radio takes AAs and the Surefire takes 123As. might want to consider all AA powered stuff, except for the weaponlight (and i'm not seeing one of those).

Everything is AAA except for the sure fire... I've tried very hard to keep normality

+1 on what's the weight.

Do you plan on carrying the AR ready to use? It looked like you had it strapped to the side in one shot. If so you might want to consider a combat gunbearer. https://kifaru.net/gunbearer_mil.html

Looks like a nifty little deal, I did expect to see more knives than you could possibly need, I think your setup in that way is actually quite reasonable. I favor a hatchet for a chopper ATM, but that's up to user.

God bless,
Adam

PS: Still think the tickle me elmo would complete the kit.

About 30 lbs... And I only take it on longer trips...Not a daily bag

Nothing 55, I used to transport a bag from home to my Jeep a few years ago. It just got to be too much of a distraction. I did the same thing Fixer did & bought a Maxpedition Aggressor attache bag. I put together a large kit that I could just leave in the Jeep with everything I needed. I have a Last Resort that I use for a daily "briefcase", with all my get home stuff in the outer pockets, & I still have room in the main compartment for my laptop, battery, cables, files, notebooks, etc. The Aggressor works a lot better for me just left in my Jeep, especially since I can not take my EDC-CCW on my company's premises. As far as your bag, looks like you have almost everything covered you would need.
Be safe.

You know... I have and humped the over the shoulder bag for about two years... I have the Larue http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=188

And walking for any length of time with that think is aweful!!!!
So I went with a framed small back pack...
But each to his own...

Thx for joining in

forgot to mention that the Bic lighter should get a small zip tie under the button to help prevent it from getting pressed in the bag and venting all the gas. Windmill lighters are nice too, but many times the price of a Bic.

the snares should be washed and set outside to rust up. this makes them look non shiny. IIRC, it also helps them smell less like man.

for a source for snares and related gear, check out www.snare-trap-survive.com i've known Buckshot for several years. if you're packing's snares, two is a low number. a dozen would be better and not weigh much more. might want to add some flagging tape so you can find 'em.

buuut, a GHB situation will probably be short term event, at least in most of the CONUS unless you're doing something that takes you really remote paces.

i've needed a fresh shirt and clean socks out of my GHB before, same for water and snacks, gloves and a few other things.

forgot that i recently got a 4-way water key, because many municipal or commercial buildings need one to turn an outside spigot on and you can't do it with a Leatherman. good item for urban endeavors, not so useful in the wilderness.

and i've got a VS-17 signal panel.

Just a quick read of the OP, if I were doing an urban BOB then I'd put the ESEE-5 in there and nothing else. It's all the knife you need to break glass, pry things open, cut shit up, steal things, rob things, etc. The only two knives that ride in my vehicles are 1) a cheap Tramontina machete and 2) an ESEE-5. The 5 is a freakin' tank. Not really worth a damn at any one thing but will do just about anything.
