Get me to Da Choppa !

Here is one of the toughest options on the planet. It is a Swamprat 1/4 inch thick sabre ground Mountainmandu made of SR77/S7, which is one of the all time toughest steels on the planet. You can find users like this in the low $300 range sometimes. You can baton, chop, take a car apart, whatever with this knife. This one hits and passes all your criteria.

Gorgeous in its utility.

I would 100% have snagged that.

I was almost sold on the El Chete until this pic, darn it.

Questions that need answering
Length preference?
Balance point location?
Steels?
Weight?
Sheath? this may not seem big but it is if you intended to carry it.
I’m a larger guy and would prefer a larger blade in the 10-14” range.
Balance point doesn’t bother me, I can chop with a Kukri or a Bowie
I don’t mind taking care of carbon steel, ease of edge maintenance is preferred
Weight unimportant, see #1
I‘d likely make a custom sheath out of thermoplastic

Thanks for your help!

There a bunch of good knives with these parameters, depending your brutality needs.

American made tough bushcraft knives that I like right now are the Bark River Bravo 1, Ka-Bar BK2 or BK-18, Benchmade Bushcrafter, and the ESEE 4. There's also the Grohmann No4 Survival Knife from the exotic land of Canada.

I first was going to report my satisfaction with the 240mm bladed Skrama by Finnish outfit Varusteleka, but you specified USA-made. My own collection has a few Dawson knives that are terrific knives. Have a look at this Arizona company.

Yeah, Since it was not getting any love from me, I decided to dump her a bit after I posted here. Pretty much gave her away cheap, but that's what a user/beater should be.

I might have a line on a classic for you and it would fit your bill perfectly

Bill Siegle Bill Siegle makes some great looking knives.

The Aurora Borealis Kodiak by Revolverrodger Revolverrodger

I emailed and left message here about the Kodiak, it looks gorgeous.

Mountainmandu incoming, thanks to all of the help here.

I really like the looks of the Skrama, too…you guys are straight-up enablers.

Thanks again!

P PatriotX Get an Ontario SP 10 Raider bowie. $60.50 and easily meets all your criteria! https://www.knifecenter.com/item/ON...raider-fixed-blade-kraton-handle-nylon-sheath I just bought one myself a few weeks ago and I love it! The blade is nearly 10" of full tang quarter-inch-thick 1075 goodness with a thick steel guard and super grippy handle. The sheath is really good too, although a leather one would be nicer. I would post a pic of mine but I'm still trying to figure out how to upload to imgur...

My first machete in 8670 was out for a test run. It was a success.

I have been working on this spot for a couple of years now, off and on. As you can see, it's right in the way, so it's a suitable place to test choppers.

Here's one of my sorties last year with a different steel:
