Get stencils made?

counter point; frickin laser beams

The thin stencils from TUS work just fine, I got over 100 knives with my first stencil. I’ve used stencils from both of the sources mentioned and the quality of the etch was the same from both.
The etching fluid used will also have an impact on the etching, different steels may require different etching fluids. I believe IMG sells a variety pack of etching fluids so you can try out different fluids on different steels.
Jeff

You got 100 blades out of One stencil?

Can we see a photo of your logo on a blade?
That's a crazy amount.
I'm probably burning Way too long.

Charlie gets 200 to 300 from each of the stencils I make for him using IMG stuff. Take a look at these photos of his capos here: https://charliescapo.com/ (Since this is educational and nothing knifemaking involved I think the link is ok. If not, Stacy please delete link) Charlie has been doing these for several years with that type of life from his stencils.

I’ve changed the thread title to omit reference to the year since this is still relevant.

And I used TUS this year. The longer I’ve been doing this the more life I seem to get out of my stencils. I don’t know exactly how many etches per stencil, but it’s at least in the dozens.

Overheating the stencil is the biggest cause of stencil failure. I only etch with 12 volts (even though I have the capability of using 24 volts). I use DC voltage for a count of 10, dab the surface clean and repeat for a total of 5 passes. Then I do the same thing for AC voltage. Once I’m done etching, I take a few passes with whatever grit paper that I’m using for the blade finish (400 grit in this case). I use the etching solution that I bought from TUS.

We have several of his capos in our house. The etching looks great!
