GET TO THE CHOPPA!!! (Kukri)

Hey Iboschi,

Just bought my first Khuk from HI a couple of months ago. Looking forward to getting out and chopping with it.

I found the people on the HI sub forum, very helpful and very friendly.

Let us know which Khuk you decide on.

(Mine is a 15-1/2" CAK by Sgt. Khadka).

Doc

I've been considering a super chopper for some time.

I don't know which model to buy!

I have also been looking at super choppers and have been reading the HI sub forum. I believe that the super choppers are here:

Maybe the 15" or the 18" or the Chirawa. The 18" is 1/2" thick and would be a heavy sucker to haul around - the 15" or Chirawa would also be heavy, but not as bad at 3/8" thick.

Anyway, if you want a super chopper that can rival an axe then those are probably the best options. They are the ones that I am considering anyway.

I'll have to decide if I want thick or not. It seems both have their advantages. I'll have to do some question asking and determine which are full tang and how well the handle notch functions. I've heard there is a specific technique to chopping with them. It's really exciting to pick up! I'll post what I decide and follow up with a review. I thought I liked knives and knew a thing or two until I joined up here. Now I have like 30 knives and NEED more blades. Again, thanks to everyone for all the help.

OK, Doc, what is 15-1/2" CAK by Sgt. Khadka?
Looked through the HI product list & could not find it.
I'd also like to get a kukri one day, but picking out one model from the plethora is a challenge to the uninitiated.

I am pretty sure that 'Chirawa' = full tang.
You are correct.

15 1/2" Churwa Ang Khola by Sgt Khadka, the good Sgt is one of H.I.'s few "visiting Kami's" whom runs his own small shop, makes excellent blades and has had a great relationship with H.I. since the beginning. His son Ram was put thru medical school by the good graces of Our Uncle Bill, Steve ferguson and my fellow forumites. His wares are not listed on the site, but are sold thru The DOTD's (deal of the day) and sell like Hotcakes.

Karda, thanks.
Looks like I'm now addicted to the HI forum as well.
Come on over, all are welcome! More than one vast collection has been started by just looking around in there....be forewarned!
