So I just finished up a Dremel table jig based on Lin Rhea's (Thanks Lin!!). And I figured I would post up some pics of various other jigs and tools I made since I started making knives. Feel free to post up pics of the homemade jigs you guys have made and use.
By the way, I tend to overbuild things, hence all of of the 1/2" plate steel!! :D

These are 2 of my platens. ceramic and leather(for sharpening). I made them quick detach with a simple clip over design. I am working on a radius platen right now that will attach the same way.

That sanding jig is nice. I actually need to make myself something like that for handles. Right now I'm limited to up an down. It would be nice to have a full 360 degree rotation.

The dremel jig is for cutting nice even grooves on the edge of guards and such.

Wow! I love it. I need to make an edge scribe myself. Still haven't come up with my final design.

What is the clip grinding jig for? Is it for grinding the knife edge?

Hey Folks,

the Easiest Edge scribe to make is this,,,, find a used engine valve sharpen the radius of the valve on the taper which is where it seals in the engine head, then all you do is chuck it up in your drill press, have a flat surface to move the blade around on and you can then adjust the table up or down and turn it on the valve will spin and you just move the blade one way then flip it over and you have 2 scribed perfect lines to grind to.

Here's my first jig to help with hollow grinding my conan swords. It is made from a Drill Press vice, angle iron, and screws. I reduced the play in the vice travel by adding a wooden support block widget:

I've only used it once, but it did a great job. Much easier than free handing it. It does get tricky around the tip though. That wheel seems to pull the steel forward...so you've got to be careful. I'm still learning.

This is very inspirational. I really like that hollow grinding jig! Can this be used with the platen also?

Hmmmm.... does it work with a platen? I've been sitting here trying to answer that question.... and i just realized that it could work with a platen just fine.... but you would have to angle jig forward abut 10 deg.... since the platen is 90deg compared to the basic work rest. It should work quite well once it was set up properly (angle, etc...). I'll have to try it.

Old thread, new info: I actually did use this jig on the platen....and simply angled the platen (didn't realize at the time that my KMG was easily able to change angles..silly me). Anyway, it worked very well for getting the major material removed...still finish by hand though to get the tip perfect.
