Hello, so i have decided to get a ESEE 6 since it looks like a knife that will give me lots of "bang for the bucks", tho i can't decide what model to get, the one with a sharpened clip point or the "normal" one?

Going to mostly use it outdoors when hiking / hunting ofc i would use it to defend myself if i had too but thats not the reason im getting it.

So anyway the one with a sharpened clip point (http://www2.knifecenter.com/item/RC6PCPB/ESEE-Knives-ESEE-6P-CP-B-Black-Sheath-Sharpened-Clip-Point)

Or the "normal" one (http://www2.knifecenter.com/item/RC6PB/ESEE-Knives-ESEE-6P-B-Plain-Edge-Black-Sheath)

Would like some help to decide, tell me some pros and cons with both of them and so, would be realy helpfull.

I have the normal version. I didn't know the sharpened clip version even existed, but I'm extremely happy with my Esee-6 nonetheless. It does everything that I ask it to do and it stays sharp. It's really up to preference in your case. That little bit of different shouldn't make any difference. The sharpened clip point should be a little better at penetration when you thrust/stab, but I can stab just as easily with the regular version. These knives are not great stabbers because of the wide belly. Like I said, it's pretty much personal aesthetic preference.

All of my Esee 6 knives are standard. For the general purpose that I have them for (camping, packing) the clip point would do nothing but chew up my botoning stick. (Yes I do hit this knife) If it was to be used for combat then I would buy a clip point. You can research this at the Esee site and find quite a lot of feedback on this topic.

I got my ESEE-4 clip point mostly for aesthetic (read: vanity) reasons. I got it for general utility / urban and rural survival blade and for camping too. Not planning to baton with it, but if you are looking for camping blade, I would go with the regular version.

Decided to get the normal one, since i will use it in the forest and the risk to end up in a self defence situation is close to non existant around here, and i dont realy see a point for that sharp clip point other then shanking people, maybe im wrong but oh well, also shorter delivery time :P

I'd say that was a good choice. I don't know where you are, but many places consider a double edged knife to be a dagger and illegal to carry. Sometimes when you're bored, try convincing a police officer that having a sharpened false edge or clip is not the same as being double edged.

Where i live its no special law regarding "daggers" but just the practical part i dont see a need of that sharp clip point :P

Here its just about haveing a reason to carry the knife :P (check Swedish knife laws if intrested)

For camping, standard for sure. I love mine.

Never tech-lok'd it but tried the supplied paracord way and it rode too high for my liking. I have 2 carbonV CS oda's and took the belt loop/dropper off one and it fit the esee-6 well. Much better hanging lower.

the stock sheath is pretty good, I think a tek-lok will make it ride too high as it has been mentioned already. I did a leather frog for mine with the top of the loop flush with the pommel and it's a perfect fit for me, sorry no shots yet. Get the regular version and beat the hell out of it, otherwise the sharpened clip will eat up your batons.

Those scales look great. Do you mind if I ask where you picked them up at?

Thx Torm, Just filed them myself with a 1/4"-3/8" round file. Takes about 1/2 hour total. It feels 10x better than stock. Every Esee I have will get this mod. If you don't want to do them yourself, find SnakeDoc over at the Esee forum. Tell him coldwaterboys sent you to him. He does way better work than I did.

I just got a standard ESEE-6 and the point is plenty stabby enough for self defence applications. I love the blade shape. It has the long curve at the tip like a trailing point but the extra strength of a drop point. It's like the hybrid child of a Becker BK-2 and a BK-5. NICE.

Thanks Bmurray, that's a great looking mod. I'd been on the fence about an ESEE for awhile but I'm going to have to pick one up later this year and do some filework like yours.

i would definitely go for the standard. i have one and its a great knife. in my opinion there is just no point for the sharpened clip point, all its gonna do is give you trouble when you try and baton with the knife. sure its better for stabbing and piercing stuff but what are we really gonna be stabbing and piercing when we go hiking and camping?
standard esee 6 is a much better way to go..and great choice of knife!
