Getting a little tired of tactical, coming back to Buck

Getting bored with all my tactical knives, and I have lots. Been into neckers lately, and really enjoy them. But... I found my old 112C back in the back of my safe, have not carried or cared about in years. Cleaned, lubed and sharpened to a laser beam and now I am gonna carry for a while. Feels good to be carrying my old friend again. Kinda heavy 5.2oz, but stout and blast proof. Anyone else gotten back to Buck after a long hiatus??

I can relate.

After years & years of the Spydercos, Benchmades, CRK, etc., I've started to 'circle back' to more of the comfortable old knives that I bought way back when and didn't know enough (then) to appreciate what I had.

I have a Buck 307 in my back pocket right now. And there's an older 2-dot 112 layin' on my desk in front of me. Both of them were recently 'resurrected' from storage, after 20 years or so, and I finally dug them back out and put new edges on 'em. Now, they're among a handful of my very 'special' knives. :)

Edited to add:
Oops! :o Just realized I said I had a 317 in my back pocket. That's a bit large for the back pocket (though I wouldn't mind having one of those too :p). It's actually a 307. I've put new edges on all three blades, and I'm LOVIN' IT! :D

Funny you posted this. I just came off a big (read "expensive") tactical kick with Benchmades, Al Mar's, Fallkniven's, SOG's, etc. You get the point. I got a hold of my buddy's 110 on a deer hunt, and ended up getting a custom 110 S30V, 154CM 110, and 2 110's for my kids, one finger groove 110 for Dad, and a 119 for one of my hunting buddies. Had I gotten the 154CM 110 first, I would have saved hundred of $, since this knife is the bomb.

Gotta love the solid feel of the 112 and 110 and the old Buck fixed-blades, too.

Nice.

Try one of the new paperstone 112's...on the web special page they have a black one cheep!

I was also coming to realize that I had sold off my tactical cool aid knives, through the course of 2010 and returned to Buck as my main focus. Glad to see I am not alone in my thinking. I have been busy searching for Buck knives I have always wanted & enjoying the deals on the web special page at Buck. I also used my 1979 110 to process my deer last weekend and it was very nice to use "an old friend" that was tucked away for years.

Oh yes...and I did get a Nighthawk recently, to fill my old tactical itch, what a great overlooked knife in my opinion. :D

Again, great thread, thanks.

I've had other brands over the years but you just can't get beat a Buck.Imho a standard 110 is hands down a better knife than much more expensive knives of that size from other makers. Also when it comes to standing behind their product and customer service Buck is second to none.A great knife to have in your pocket is the yellow 301.:D

Must be in the air. I love my Fallknivens, but decided it was time to come back to Buck. I won two custom 110s on eBay yesterday and can't wait to get them! I'll post pics when I do. I'm wearing my old trusty 110 on my belt today. Once I sell off a couple more fixed blades I think I'll pick up a few more customs. Something about having the old bombproof trusty 110 that just makes ya grin.

Welcome back from the mall guys! :D

Welcome back from the mall guys! :D

I get yer meaning... ;)

However, perhaps ironically, the only knife I ever actually bought at a mall was a stag-handled Puma Original Bowie (in the old yellow plastic box w/green lid) back in the early '80s. Still have this one too; beautiful knife. Doesn't quite fit the stereotype. I think I was better off then. The whole 'tactical', black-handled, serrated edge thing hadn't really caught on yet.

Tatoo, great taste in knives! Those two are gorgeous. I am looking forward to the full pics.

As for coming home to Buck, I too have grown weary of other brands and am going to concentrate on Buck knives from now on. I was heavily into the Buck Customs and Specials for obvious reasons, but had to beg-off for a spell due to high shipping costs. As it turns out, the order with FedEx delivery was in error and I got whacked with an extra charge from FedEx. I recently mentioned this to Buck and they found the error and made things right. Buck went above and beyond to solve my problem, with the best customer service I have had from anywhere. A person just can't help feeling good about dealing with Buck and their great knives, so 'thanks' to the great people at BKI and it is good to be back.:thumbup:

I can join in on this. I started with Buck's and have just recently made a full circle back. It was a kind of cool to explore the other side but looking back I wish I had put all that money into Buck's or some customs. I'm not certain at what point I was lured away but I know it wont happen again. I'll stick to my roots from now on for the most part, I'm sure I'll pickup the odd SAK or Multi, but thats different all together.

Buck makes some great tactical folders too. IMO the Strider/Buck collaborations were some of the best tactical blades available. However, I and some of the guys I train with are putting our tactical folders away for a while and challenging ourselves to see what its like to rely on just our empty hand skills. So I picked up a Buck 2 blade Canoe since I still seem to need a knife for regular stuff.

Hey Guy's DONT forget BUCK's root's. (HOW ABOUT BUCK TACTICAL's) ;)

Rev. Hoyt BUCK made knives for GI's in his Church etc.

Then 120 etc

THEN the BUCK Collaberation with PHROBIS LTD That made the following

BuckMaster's (US Navy SEAL's)

Then 186

THEN M9 Bayonet (US Army)

END of PHROBIS LTD,II and III Collaberation's

Then BUCK Nighthawks

THEN more Collaberation's Intrepids(Kit Carlson)

THEN Striders

THEN Hartsook,Mayo and SIMONICH(awesome KNIFE)

THERE is only 13 TACTICAL Knives that BUCK Makes so I way undersatnd why you what to go back to HUNTING root's as the Tactical Buck's are a small part of the BUCK Knife line.
With that said

I LOVE the new BUCK TOP'S Collaberation.
Mark my words THIS COLLABERATION will make
a hit in the Tactical market...I think BUCK will always have some sort of Tactical knife because of there root's..

The long view of Buck's product line. Thank you kindly XD. Well done.

I bet that you have photo-worthy examples of all cited blades. And I would be charmed and in your debt if you would consider providing a chronological photo essay of them all. I know how much work this entails. Pretty please.

Within the last 14 months I too have enjoyed a renewed interest in my old Bucks, but I still like tacticals. I also have a new interest in traditionals and now have 6 Buck stockman knives from their 300 series. In fact I have a chairmans series 301 in my back pocket as I type this. My point is I like many different kinds of knives. It seems a lot of posts I read are by guys who are suddenly abandoning certain styles of knives. Why? Is there a law somewhere that says we have to be in one camp or another? Why do some feel it is necessary to "divorce" themselves from prior purchases? I like the impractical Buckmaster I got in 1986 as well as the impractical Strider DB-GG I bought 2 years ago. I also like my Buck 112 and my tanto-bladed Emerson MiniCQC-7B. Do you get my point? They are all different and I use and still like them all.
