Getting a Persian

I totally agree with your review of the persian Haze. I believe it is a fully functional knife as well as beautifully designed. And it definitely is underrated and is my absolute favorite Emerson I own and I don't even mind it doesn't have a wave feature

I am keeping mine in NIB condition since it is out of production. It is a beautiful knife but as I have said many times, I generally carry only waved knives. Be they Emerson, DDR, or home waved.

Thanks haze. I am really diggin' it. I would definitely have to re-handle mine if I got it though - I just never cared for the flat slab g-10 that is so prevelant with Emersons.

As you mentioned, it's a no-brainer that the tip design is good and bad (penetration - good, easily breaking off - bad). Which stirs me to ask, what do you think of Bud Nealys Pesh Kabz?

Thanks again,
Gibby

i like all of nealy's stuff, imho he's one of the better 'smiths when it comes to FB's & he does a good sheath, i really like the MASS system a lot, the MCS, not so much, dont like it at all really for how i carry a FB, but i have had a pesh kebz for a while now, a 5" M2 powder coated one, and have had excellent luck with it, have also had a std 3.5" one and still have an amoeba, which is also a good one ya rarely hear about.

imho nealy and al polkawski are hard to beat when it comes to edc FB's.

i've also had a few p-tacs and like them a lot too, one of my fav emersons is my ECA p-tac with the ZBG blade, i've had it since '01 or so and its not for sale.

Excuse my ignorance, what's the difference? I'm assuming PTAC means Persian, Tactical. I don't see it being listed on their site and google isn't helpng much.

By the way, thanks for all that info.

nevermind SIFU1A, I just found one of your earlier posts. Handles look to be alum or Ti.

"all the ECA knives have gone up in value, ~ a yr after the 1st came out the P-Tac one, one was listed on BF for sale, was listed for 4 or 5 weeks, i finally made an offer on it and got it for IIRC $100 and a knife worth ~ $100, i rememebr the guy said i was "getting a deal" i had just gotten into emersons and didnt know the ECA P-Tac was zero bevel hand ground among other things, it was certainly a good investment as they run $350 or so now, if ya can find one, IIRC only ~120 made, the ECA knives are as close to an emerson custom as ya can get unless ya get lucky at a knife show and buy one for $550 or pay ~$1K from someone,

the new one seems ok though i'm not just nutz about it, it would be a good investment though if ya buy one and dont carry it, though i did carry my P-Tac some. "

Thanks,
Gibby

The ECA P-Tac is the "Emerson collectors association Persian Tactical"
Its got a zero bevel ground blade with the specwar logo but the handle is the same as the production
knives. It may have thicker liners and be a bit more hand finished but the balde is the only real difference.

They are real nice knives, thats for sure :)

Congrats on your Persian CM:thumbup:

That's my second favorite Emerson.....the 12 is #1 for me

i dont think ECA persian has the specwar logo

Sorry, I was trying to say "the specwar styled logo" :foot: Its an ECA knife so it has the ECA logo, that IMO looks like the Specwar logo.

Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up.
