Getting a small knife

I'm looking to get a small knife, I've been looking at a boker subclaw or a spyderco cricket. I was wondering if the cricket is worth the extra cost and was hoping for more suggestions, thanks

my favorite small one-hander is a Buck Colleague. Frame lock. Chinese. Good fit and finish. Reasonable edge holding. ~$12 online. I have a Spyderco Ladybug. I like the Colleague better.

I love the Cricket. Its such a good cutter... but so small. Its like carrying a silver dollar in your pocket.

Nothing against the cricket, but I doubt it. All of the CLB designed Bokers are phenomenal knives. I don't have a SubClaw/Com/Wharcom but I've heard nothing but rave reviews about them. I do have a Trance and you would be hard pressed to find a better knife for twice the price.

I agree with Dekz; you will be hard pressed to find a better small folder for the money than one of Chad's designs. I have a Subcom, Wharcom and the Trance. I'm partial to the Wharcom.

I'm partial to the Lava for a smaller style knife. The Cricket has a very useful blade shape though. Needle point for precision.

Lately I'm finding small ~$10 folders attractive...and easy on the wallet:

Buck Minibuck - http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=BU425BK

Gerber STL 2.0 - http://www.rockynational.com/2449_22-41122_Gerber_STL_20_Fine_Edge.html

Case Mini Blackhorn - http://www.knivesplus.com/case-knife-blackhorn-ca-253.html

Even the Applachian Trail Bone Handled mini-"Trapper" - http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=223838-50034-51032
It's China-made but the F&F is realy good.

I had a Boker Wharcom but sold it. I kept the Spyderco Cricket.

The CLB stuff is terrific at its price point, but the Cricket is worth the difference to me - better fit and finish, unique design, smart blade shape, and takes up almost no room.

Get the Cricket. I have the SS version and it's one of my favorite knives. Comes out of the box wicked sharp and despite its looks, it's not all that hard to sharpen.

I love Boker's traditional designs. But their "tactical" stuff just doesn't do anything for me. And the Subcom line is just hideous and the one that I handled wasn't comfortable at all in my hand.

For such a small knife, the Cricket feels really nice in hand, and the fit and finish is as good as it gets.

You could always look at the Buck 503 and 55, two great knives that'll fit the bill as small.
