Hey Guys,

I was really interested in starting knifemaking about ten years ago, I was on the forums daily and even bought a KMG grinder. Without the space or time after moving into my new home I ended up selling the grinder and putting my interests on hold. Im self employed now and moving to a large shop where I can now reignite my interest in knifemaking. I have been looking for a affordable grinder and found this. Please tell me what you think or if youve had any experience with one.

The contact wheel is a castor, I wouldn't use that.

The spring seems weak too.

but I' haven't seen one in person

seems Like a decent rig but I guess it would depend on cost, if it is 1200 or under I would say go for it, but if it is over you should look around a bit more. There are some pretty nice grinders out there just pick the one that fits your budget without busting the bank.

I don't know the cost of that unit but I agree with the count that I would ditch the caster and get a proper contact wheel. Even in the video it seems to have some wobble.

Looks like the grinder is $1865

Count, why do you say it's a caster? He has a video showing uhmw cutting on a lathe, maybe he cuts them.

Edit- nevermind, just realized you were talking about the contact wheel. (I'm exhausted) :o

At a price over 1800 I would look elsewhere. I think the grinders listed on the exchange here are a better value, for nearly 400 less. At that price you could get a pretty well set up grinder from many sources, probably with better parts.

The Esteem looks like a really nice rig. I just dont know how supportive those joints for the tool rest are, looks like the might loosen up easily.
