Getting burned out , and a few other ramblings...

Like my mother's boyfriend always told me, "...everything is replaceable, except family and time."

Life is a balance of everything you have in it, when it's right it's great, when it's wrong, it hurts. Take care of the important things, the things that only come around once.

Good for you Allen. Family matters most, everything else in moderation.

From time to time I look at the huge pile of stuff I have and sometimes I'd like to just dump it all. Even though I loved going through the process of collecting it all.

I respect your thinking... keep first things first... and family comes first...

I have had a few knives, no knives, many knives... and currently have too many knives...

I have watched my kids grow up in to responsible adults and my wife and I grow closer as the years pass...

Family comes first, then friends and certain coworkers...

I will shuffle off this mortal coil in 10 to 20 years... (fewer if my wife finds my personal visa bill)

and when I am gone, my wife will have the fun of selling all my accumulated crap...

here is to relationships and family!

Huzzah!

Nice to see you back on! So this is still a BladeForums so I'm dying to know as you are a true gear aficionado... Its gotta be asked, what remainimg gear out of it all did you decide to keep?!!!

Some knives will never be sold because of sentimental value, as far as blades go , wife just found a brand new strider SMF im bag i forgot i bought (bought new house same time i bought strider), Ill keep my cruwear manix and millie, manix 2 xl, izula 2 , leatherman st300, my zt/emerson , may go less than that as far as guns and gear good god, we gonna need another thread , my guns are like my children, so far ive only brought myself to sell 2 smith and wesson j frames.

As stated, you are a good man, Allen.
You can do this. Drop the weight.
I have ONE pistol and I will whittle away at my knife collection. I have it down to 3 knives in rotation. The rest will be sold. I did this before with the knives and I will do this again. Less is more.
All the Best.
rolf

I have a lot of respect for you Rolf , in my home i have a firearm in every room , and usually 6 feet or less from me , I keep firearms in both my vehicles and my wife's as well, In was called paranoid for years until the incident in my OP, and had I not known my house in the dark or even how to work my weapon in the dark there is a strong possibility me my wife and even my daughter might of all been killed , but I dunno.

..... Sorry for chasing a rabbit again just Veteran suicide is a serious issue to me.[/QUOTE]

I don't think anyone here feels that you are chasing rabbits, my friend. You are spot on, Veteran suicide is a serious issue.

Our Veterans have been getting the short end of the stick for years now. They need all the help and support we can give them.

It took a near tragedy in my family about five years ago to make me realize that family and friends were the most important things in my life. Before that event, small things used to bother me. Now these things don t seem very important. Who was it who said "Don t sweat the small stuff (and it s all small stuff)".
I deal with knives, and to some extent guns, merely as a pastime, and realize how valuable the time with my family and friends is.
Allen, enjoy your family while you can. Your kids will get their own lives sooner than you think and your opportunities to be with them will become scarce. Congratulations on your new understanding of the value of your family life.
Best regards.:)

I guess in a month or 2 shell be getting her license. BUT I have another on the way so all is good. Its strange i never wanted kids ever, then wife got pregnant and i was like cmon be a boy and i got a girl, now wifes pregnant again and im like ok come on be a girl, lol. Mommas boys and Daddys girls for sure .

I totally understand Allen. I have a habit of being obsessed with things. It doesn't matter if it's guns, knives or cars...
I really went through this with guns. My vintage Colt and Winchester collecting was all consuming. As soon as I woke in the morning, the first thing I thought about was getting ready to go check the gun shops, and pawn shops to see if anything came in.

I didn't stop thinking about guns until I went to sleep. It really hit me when one day I decided to get all the guns out at the same time. I had two very big safes that were completely stuffed, guns in the closets of all of the bedrooms, guns in drawers, guns under the beds, and some that were at my parents house.

When I saw all of these guns at the same time, I thought to myself, WTF am I doing ? This is ridiculous.
So began the process of selling about 98% of the guns. When the dust settled, there have only been a few that I wish I still had, but it doesn't bother me.
It proved to me that as much as I loved them, they were just things and not important in the grand scheme of life.

I sold/gave away most of my knife collection, keeping only a bare handful. These in the photo are all that's left aside from a Wenger SI and a Buck sheath knife. I realized that I didn't need to consume my life trying to collect them all. I still drop by just to look, but I'm done with collecting knives or guns or anything else. Life is to be lived engaged with those you care about, not inanimate objects.

Of all the things I miss most, the things I miss most are the knives, guns, and cars that I once owned and later sold...don't do it. ;)

Screw having a wife and kids, I want all my money to myself.

Who needs a wife when you can have different women when ever you want? Who needs a kid when you can have a Patek Phillipe? Who needs a "relationship" when you can have an exotic sports car?

Wives and children do nothing but suck all the life and money out of you. I worked hard to develop my 1%er lifestyle, the last thing I would want is a wife to come and try to take it all away from me.

But that's just me, if you're happy then good for you. I'm happy being single and still having my cars, watches, knives, and other expensive toys.
