when your in the woods do you bring all food of do you catch/hunt it and if you do what do you use and what do you bring

I usually bring all of my food...When I go camping with my friend, though, he usually brings along his pole and we have some fresh fish for dinner in addition to whatever I'm carrying as backup. Last time we split a nice brown trout baked straight on the coals of a fire, along with some bratwurst and hotdogs.

There were a couple of threads on food recently, but I lost my search ability so I can't look them up for you...maybe someone with a paid membership would be so kind...

When you're in the woods, do you bring all of your food, or do you catch it or hunt for it? If you do, what do you use and what do you bring?

Fixed that for you.

Unless I'm on an extended fishing outing in an area that I know to be fruitful, I try to pack sufficient food for my trip. When I'm fishing, I bring appropriate gear (rod, tackle, fillet knife, etc.). I also pack some basic food procurement equipment in my PSK, for example snare wire, cordage, fishing line and hooks, etc. Finally, I like to practice basic trap-making skills, so that I can throw together a figure four deadfall should the need arise.

One of the reasons that I like to combine extended paddling / hiking trips with some fishing is that I can pack in less food and make up for it with the day's catch.

All the best,

- Mike

I usually bring all my food. However, on the Black Creek trail that currently holds my attention, I'm pretty sure I could catch at least one meal a day in the river if I spent $50 on a license.

most of my trips into the woods some times i bring food most of the time i bring a fishing pole and bait some times i bring a 22 but for me its hard to bring food for over a week so i get my own

I pack in what I need. Anything I catch is a bonus and stretches the pack food.

I do something along the lines of that. I bring everything I need. Anything I find, catch, kill, or scavenge along the way is a bonus

for the most part I bring food, its nice to catch some trout once in a while though, bring some garlic and a grate and its a date!:D
