Apparently I now own too many pocketknives (I'm going with that diagnosis). I had recently decided I needed a Case 6347, old style with two backspring construction (already have a 63047 old style, and several 6347 new style, three springs). I even picked one out to buy off the internet. I was straightening my Case display a few minutes ago and spotted a Case 6318 (got lots of them) hidden behind the 63047. Turns out is wasn't a 6318, but this 6347 - I've owned it a year per my records, but don't remember buying it and didn't recognize it! I guess that's good, I can consider it a new knife for my collection. How about you gents - happen often? OH

I had a buddy who once owned close to 400 guns. He would pull them out of the safe, look at them, oil them and put them back. One day when he was pulling guns out to show me one and he found one that he had completely forgot that he had purchased 20 plus years before. I told him from now on if he found one he'd forgotten about it now belonged to me. Funny how the power of suggestion works because he never forgot another oneo_O

I believe the Klingon of ," too many knives," is " Whxxxqqt hhrryqq frrvvvqqqqhhgg aaaarrrkkk!!! AHUKK?? ahukahukahuka"
No literal translatiion exists as it is considered blasphemous.
But heres the thing O.H.
I have an almost identical Case cv 63032 small stockman....that I didnt know i had until i found it lurking in the stockman box during "roll call".
Spooky.

No you just need to be better organized, my advice is write or type up a logbook that records every single knife in your collection. Edit. Sorry guess I didn’t read the original post entirely,

You have knife records? Geez, I wouldn't know where to start. Plus, half of my collection, the ink used to record the knife on paper is probably worth more than the knife itself...

By the way, that's a beauty!

I keep an Excel spreadsheet of all my knives, both past and present. It keeps me humble: I look back on some of the GECs I sold a few years ago when I really needed the money, that are now worth 3 times what I sold them for.

I've not had your situation (yet) but I have had the inevitable
"I know have a _(fill in blank)_ ... now where is it?!" moments ... days ... weeks ... decades ...

BTW, That ancient prehistoric adage
"You'll find it in the last place you look." is a lie. :(

Ed, that’s a beautiful Case Stockman. Glenn my records on each Buck Knife are meticulous; all others are the receipts (if I have one) thrown in an overstuffed envelope. I dated this one by the date I took the digital picture! Better than nothing. OH

Old Hunter Old Hunter before I sold off most of my collection it seemed quite often that I "found" knives I didn't remember owning like wise I have 2 knives that I know I had that I that I can't find anywhere which absolutely drives me nuts.

My "collector" knives I have all laid out in a spreadsheet. And I never buy another knife for the collection without checking my sheet first. But for user knives, I buy what I like without another thought.

If you took all your knives and put them in a bag, then while you were blindfolded someone handed you a random knife from the collection do you think you could I dentify all your knives by touch alone?

I've had them try to stupid me in the house and so far I'm battin' a 1000. :)

Despite not owning many knives, every single time I take mental inventory I forget at least one that I have stashed somewhere. I always remember it a day or two later, but I know that the day when I won't remember it isn't far off . . . ;):D
