Alright everyone I am getting geared up for my first show I went ahead and went big. Doing my states biggest show the Mississippi wildlife Extravaganza alot of people I mean a whole hell of alot. My question is what should I expect as far as people now granted this is not a knife show but it is the biggest hunting related event in my state and I know a few knifemakers always do good. But more importantly what should I do about checks I don't want to punish good people but I am scared of getting stuck with a bogus check. I thought about not taking them ( their will be an atm machine handy) or holding the knives until the checks clear but I wouldn't want to write someone a check and then let them keep what I bought. I have a feeling that anyone who is a truely good person and wants a knife will do what ever I decide.

I think you're right there.

If I go to a knife show, I put CA$H in my pocket. Far too much.
I expect most other people to do the same one way or another.

I have seen a potential "buyer" try to talk a maker into taking a cheque.
He spent 2 hours and used 3 different stories. I could see the maker get tired of it but he just kept repeating his policy.

With so many ways to access our money, cash, visa, bank card, cash machine...
I wouldn't take a cheque unless they have been vetted out BY YOU in the past.

You may decide to accept a layaway plan for a deposit, but i feel there is a lot of defaulters and hassles with that too.

Have a ton of cards with your website/contact info on it.

You could write their name, address, ect. and the knife they want and just mail it to him/her when the check clears. Or point them to the nearest ATM. Just a thought.

You need to set up a Merchants account with your bank so you can take credit cards and debit cards. Checks are almost a thing of the past now. Be sure to check Identification and inprint the card and call it in at that time if its a big ticket item. The debit cards work the same way. Everything seems to be plastic now.

My sales jump up when they see the Visa/Mastercard sign on the table.

Lots of Cash- I've taken a lot of checks at shows and never got stung but the decision is yours. As "This note is legal tender for all debts public and private"
