I wanted to ask everyone that works with Micarta, paper in particular what you use to get as high of a shine as possible? And also, do you think that paper Micarta will maintain that high shine. Its my experience that it will dull considerably with handling in a short amount of time.

Thanks in advance!

After polishing, you can hand buff it with Simichrome.
Then paste wax, or neutral shoe polish. Re-wax periodically.

To get a high polish on Micarta I sand to 2500 grit then buff with white rouge. After the rouge I use a polishing cloth to clean it up and then finish with a few coats of renaisance wax, that I hand buff to a high polish.

I just discovered Simichrome in this thread. It does do nice work on Micarta, and it took what I thought was a very nicely polished blade and made it glow.

The Simichrome was hard to find though. No luck at Orchard Hardware or O'Reilly Auto Parts. Ace Hardware had it locked in a case. The guy at Ace, who uses Simichrome himself, told me it is hard to get because they don't have a sales rep, and it has to be ordered directly from the company.
