getting my first hinderer tommorow.... tips?

I still like the penny idea. It's easy, gives a lot of control and costs less than a nickel. :)

I like the safety and control (not to mention supporting Rick & Company) of buying the proper armorer tool. That other home made stuff can slip and scratch up your knife!

My opinion if you buy the best pocket knive ever made you can buy the tool. Works perfect used mine over and over will never wear out if you use regular screwdriver or anything else it just a matter of time you will mess something up.

Quoted for truth! ^ ^

someone on youtube (i think it was NYCdave) said that even the screws on the XM models were custom. is that true? seems unlikely but would be uber neat if it was.

Rick Hinderer designs and machines his own screws, standoffs and pivot system, it is all made "in-house". If you ever look closely at those pieces, they are very nicely engineered and manufactured.

The only thing that we do not manufacture in house is the small 2-56 clip screws, the rest of the hardware we make here.

Any particular reason why you went with philips head screws? Not a complaint, just curious to know.

my best guess would be because the pocket clip would be the thing most people had to fiddle with. so the gave it a screw that corresponds with a far more accessable tool

so does that mean its a custom, or a semi-custom?

Really good knife! Will treat you well. Just hope you didnt pay some crazy price for it!! I think the prices I see sometimes for Hinderers are getting out of hand. Great product, but Rick is not GOD. There are plenty of other really good makers out there!

I don't think you should come into a knifemaker's forum and make off the wall comments (see above). A good deal is any one that leaves both buyer and seller satisfied.

and happy i am. without a doubt its the best knife i own. the other member involved is enoying his knives very much as well, so its a success on both fronts :)

deal was fair enough i guess. i would do it again if i had to though. loving this knife far more then what was lost. ut was a trade. and i actually wound up getting little cash with the hinderer as well.

My only tip would be to use the hell out of it and don't worry about things like little scratches on it. Mine is covered with 'badges of use' by now.
