Yeah I just grind it off and start over. I tape both sides and will only lift one side to check before I remove the stencil. That way if its not quite right it will line right back up and I can do it some more. I've found that most of the time a bad etch is simply one that hasn't been done long enough. Course ya can go the other way and have a whole different set of problems. Got pics? Might want to try this in Shoptalk.

Sand it off and start again. Until you get things down pat, try practicing on some HTed steel of the same type the blades are. Get the time and voltage worked out before doing the actual blades.
What are you using for etching? Machine, pad, etchant?
Let us know and maybe we can give you a couple of tips on getting that etch improved for you.
