Getting rid of my PM2, replace with Spyderco Gayle Bradly or Benchmade Rift, or ?

950 Rift would be excellent for what your asking, simple, strong construction, very strong blade shape/grind.
I can get its 154CM seriously sharp, its holds the edge fairly well and is a really carryable knife.

I've got a rift, military, and hk nitrous blitz as work type knives. Rift lost it tip. Hk had something break inside while cutting THICK cardboard and is on its way back to benchmade. Military keeps loosing screws amongst several other issues. Now my spyderco tenacious has no pro lens, except I lost the thing. Why does my military loose screws, have a loose lock up, have the most accidently disengaged lock of any knife ever owned by me, yet the tenacious doesn't have any of those problems.

Was it like this when it was new?
How much do you flick it?

I'd send it back for work, because IMHO, a linear lock like that should be a little "sticky" right before the lock "gives" for you to close the knife....sort of like if you had dried cola on the lock-bar.

It could just be the way you hold the knife combined with handle shape?

As a Benchmade fan my recommendation is the Rift, it's a great knife. IMHO it's one of the real standouts to come out of Benchmade in the past few years.

I just ordered a spydie Gayle Bradley, I'll let you know what I think of it.

From your original suggestions, I'd recommend the Rift. I have both. I love the GB except for the "in-hand feel". I just can't get used to the handle. Mine's a keeper and a sometime user, but it's not a knife that I'd take everywhere everyday for everything... the Rift is. Have done, in fact, and it serves very well. As a suggestion about other US made knives in the same size range as the PM2, you might want to look at Emerson's mini-CQC15. Very comfortable to carry and use, easy to maintain, and a very tough package all around. A satin PE blade shouldn't attract any unwanted attention at all.

I have the Rift & the Contego. Both carry well for me, and I can't say enough about the M4 blade of the Contego. I will say that the next Spyderco I get will most likely be the Gayle Bradley, so no help here. I recommend a little fondle time with your choices, that will help with your decision.
