Getting Started In North Texas

Hi there. Complete noob here. I'm looking to get started and am looking for advice and information. Ideally, I'd like to find someone local to the S.W. Ft. Worth area (I'm in Hood County) willing to teach or at the very least let me see setups and all (I can read about it all day long, but I'm a much better hands on learner). Basically looking for guidance and possibly a weekend teacher (I'll buy you beer....... And I'm a mechanic with access to a good supply of scrap ). Thank you.
