Well i've decided I would like to make a new sheath for my TOPS wolf pup in leather mostly because I am sick of the kydex sheath it came with:o .

I am planning on ordering some stuff from tandy leather and I think I have it figured out what I want except for the leather. I was looking at getting the premium double shoulder leather in 9-10 oz.

Is that a good choice in leather or are there better ones on that site for a sheath?

Thanks from an aspiring sheath maker. :)

Hi Red, last time I ordered I got a Double Shoulder #2 ; 8/9 oz. @ 3.99/sq.ft (it came out to what they describe as 13.75 units of leather) Total came out to $54.86 for that piece. I think that was a sale price but still is a great value at the regular price IMHO. Very few imperfections or range marks. That was from "The Leather Factory" a ?division? of Tandy At the time I also bought a single shoulder ; 6/7 oz. also @ 3.99/sq.ft. (8 units) for a total of $31.92. Both pieces with shipping came to $98.86. I don't use 6/7 oz. much and still have some of that one left. The 8/9 oz. piece made many, many sheaths. I'm down to about 1-2 sheaths worth left and will need to make another order asap.

Happy I could help Red  ;) Hey Red, I wanted to add that the ones I get are what the Leather factory/Tandy calls "Oak Leaf" Double Shoulders , Veg. tanned sides.

Yep. Double shoulders are perfect for sheaths IMO, and ~9 oz is ideal.
