Getting the gunk out?!?

My problem is a two-blade jack with a liner running the full length and width of the knife dividing the blades. So what I have is two narrow channels that so far only a skinny toothpick will fit into. I'd like to find something mildly abrasive to clean out the heavier rust. Any ideas for tools, cleaners and techniques?
Thanx,
Mike

Cut the sharp end off a toothpick, get a small wad of 0000 steel wool, and use the cut toothpick to move the steel wool. Flush with WD 40.

Fold a small piece of very fine grit wet-or-dry emory cloth, drop a couple of drops of brasso or your favorite cleaner in the gruve, and drag back and forth. flush with warm water, dry, then lightly oil.

Brasso is not good for knives-it gets in the joints and causes undue wear, and Brasso residue is very difficult to clean out of crevices.

I make little tools from bamboo meat skewers to fit the blade slot and super light mineral oil. You can cut the skewers into fine chisel shapes and they don't break like toothpicks if you need a little pressure to clean the interior back springs and get in under the blade tang.

Regards

Robin
